Doohickie plays jonmc and defends the indefensible: Blood, Sweat & Tears. [More:] Okay, I can't defend them. Just listen to them and see if you don't get a sublime fusion of music behind the sometimes profound, sometimes mundane lyrics.

They were really good at what they did. They weren't afraid to do things no one else was doing.... or doing what everyone else was doing but making it sound better.

(Now listening to You've Made Me So Very Happy.)
Any band with Al Kooper can't be all bad - and even the stuff after he left has it's moments. For me they're a cherry-pick band - lots of bland songs with a few gems. "And When I Die" and "Lucretia MacEvil" are fantastic singles. And I have s oft spot for "You've Made Me So Very Happy" and "Spinning Wheel", which were faves of mine as a kid.

Fabulous band. They need no defense.

BST is definitely a lead proponent of what I like to call "shake music" - as in, this band is so much better when you've enjoyed some good cheap, shake bud.

YMMV

"Go Down Gamblin'" kicks all kinds of ass. But I'm a sucker for a horn section. Hell, I saw Justin Timberlake at the Toronto SARS concert and came away enjoying it because he brought a horn section.
