So with the time difference... today is the 20th of January.→[More:]
Which makes it Obama Day.
And it certainly is Obama Day here in my office... (photos to follow)
Oh, wowsers. That's fabulous. I'm in an area that might get a measurable amount of snow tonight, and am hoping to get a snow day to celebrate like you are.
I sent my dead parakeet to DC so The One can touch it and bring it back to life. I can't wait!
Does He have to wait until after the coronation before He gains His Full Powers or could He do it beforehand (yes, I know he has a full schedule)? Just wondering, as I'm still a Novice. Do any of his Disciples around here know for sure?
Oh, never mind. I forgot to include return shipping. I'll have to Tivo The Obama Channel for the Miracle Hour to see if Tweetie gets picked for resurrection. Fingers crossed!
It's been OBAMA DAY here in Poland for about two hours now and even though I'll be teaching some kids the alphabet or something tomorrow during THE SPEECH, I'll be in my red-white-and-blue and carrying tissues for the numerous weepy episodes I expect all day.
Champagne with colleagues and lots of huddling around YouTube to watch as soon as I get home.
Some friends in England told me their office is closing early so they can all watch the inauguration on the telly with ample amounts of Budweiser, Twinkies and fire arms.
I'm tossing up whether to wake up at 3:30 AM and watch the inauguration live, or not. I suspect that just like getting up at 7 AM after the red-eye to Perth to watch the Apology live, it might be worth it.
Stilicho, I don't think that was directed at the man, himself. It just seems like people are so desperate for a hero that they are piling unbelievable expectations on someone who after all, is human just like everyone else. That has to be a weight on him, I think.
OTOH with this approbation comes a willingness to believe that whatever he does is a good thing. I think that is a tremendous advantage for any leader to have. So few ever get it.
Stilicho, I have my issue with Mr. Obama to be sure but, as bunnyfire correctly states, the cult following is the sand in my grits. I would love, love, love for him to be the best ever in an objective sense, not as in He Can Do No Wrong. Good for the country and all that, right?
The more people act like Obama belongs somewhere between Zeus and Jesus the more I'll bring out the sarcasm. Obama is a politician. From Chicago. He'll do what all politicians do, which is to mess things up then make them worse trying to fix them.
a willingness to believe that whatever he does is a good thing
Historically speaking, that usually doesn't turn out well for the citizens.
My giddy excitement over this inauguration has less to do with my belief that Obama is sainted and always right than it does with a profound, visceral sense of relief that the Bush Era is over. I don't think Obama is perfect. I do think Bush is corrupt, incompetent and vile. The bar is pretty low. Anyone even remotely competent is going to shine in comparison.
Agreed. And it is absolutely a landmark event; I'm so glad I lived long enough to see it, and hope I get to see a woman president, and a gay president. Good luck on me for that... I'm guessing I have a possible 7-9 administrations to go, optimistic max, for that to happen. But wouldn't that be kicking it ultra? I'd love to be able to see my birth country change that much.
Not that I see Obama as the Black President, primarily. He's the most exciting, newest, most hopeful thing to happen to U.S. politics in 50 years, after what has been, I think, its darkest hour. Now we'll see how it all works out.
