I have moved! To a new host! Remember the crashing server? Well that got me so sad I decided to go all out and get a bigger faster and badder machine over in the states and offer 37 years of Superbowl commercials free for all.[More:] I have no idea if we'll survive the crush of traffic during the superbowl, or hell if anyone will even notice, but right now, all signs point to "yes" regarding surviving traffic. and yes, since they are free for all, you'll have to deal with the ads floating around. Sorry but the server needs to get paid somewhow.
CONGRATS!

thankyo thankyoo - was a royal pain in the arse to move, and when I called my old ISP it really felt like I Was breaking up with someone including using a variation of the "it's not you it's me" line, srsly! - but now that I've finally moved and several weeks delayed in all my big superbowl plans, I just hafta kick into gear.

Was hoping to have things free for all already Jan 1 see, and some new features finished as well. So that word had time to spread. Fuck knows if it has time now, but I'll keep at it even if it is for an audience of 1.

You've really been up against it on the server front. I hope that the new hosting goes well.

Did you look at using media hosting for your ads, or are they all stuffed onto the one server still? I must admit to major curiosity about the adland site. It must cost a fortune. Good manners stops me from asking just how much it does cost and where you get your revenue from. But only just.

Good luck & Congrats. Here's to a new life for commercial archive.

heya seanyboy. I don't mind. I looked into various cloud-like aletrnatives but they all demanded more work from me than I had time to spare at the moment. Might be an option for the future though, keeping a eye on all sorts of alternative solutions. Uploading all ads to a third party however, is not a solution due to legal issues (more often the thirds party's than anything else, yaknow the usual "we all own all yer stuff forever" can't be done since i do not own the rights to the ads, I do however have permission to post them.)

It does cost a pretty penny, and for a while there, the upgrade-solution was working ok. People who watched ads chipped in for the cost of displaying said ads, and people who didn't couldn't see them, it made sense. For lots of reasons this is no longer making sense, one of them being 'omg I can totally see this on youtube for free you asshole' hate mail once a day. Working on something on my spare time for free (which in the end actually costs me money) and getting cranky comments daily was just really getting me down. Worse was when the server started crashing because I still couldn't afford certain solutions that would have helped us.

So I'm taking a chance now to see if the whole "ad-supported" ad-archive will work, as so many people believe. I'm not so sure, but I'll give it a go. However, it it does end up costing me more money than it makes, again, I'm shutting it down forever and spending my hard earned money on shoes like normal girls instead. ;))

Are the superbowl commercials working now? I get a broken quicktime symbol in IE, and a video panel that never loads in firefox (also some formatting problems in FF).

Thanks for putting these up, btw. It'll make some fun viewing.

Yeah, ahhh lets see here. I'm not really sure why the IE one has issues (I don't have IE, but from what I've just read I need to add like ten lines to each embed to make 100% that it works in IE - ack, shoot! I don't think I can do that) - but that ugly formatting problem in FF 3.0 (not earlier FF) and Flock was due to a carriage return so I just updated 43561 embedded commercials to not have that stupid carriage return, and presto - formatting issues are gone in FF & Flock. Yeay!

Maybe that helped for IE too? The carriage return made part of the embed code render after a div-close and that was just wrong.

ps - thanks for letting me know DarkForest, I thought I had fixed all of those before the move, It must've gotten unfixed along the way and I load the site in Safari most often so I hadn't spotted it yet.

Looks good, dabitch. The quicktime problem I was having was on my side. Reinstalling fixed it. My under-the-weather daughter and I browsed a bunch, though she's too young to get most of them, and since we don't have a TV, she doesn't have much of a reference point. I enjoyed them anyway...

yeay! QT workie! - too young? My daughter positivly adores this one (and knows the song by heart), is she that kind of young maybe? Swedish ad for pharmacy regarding the common cold: apoteket-barnförkylningsakuten-2007-30-sweden

I think my daughter would like that one. I do anyway - a bright perky song and nice photography. She's just about to turn 6. She just hasn't been exposed to much TV at all. I showed her the "wazzup" Bud commercial and she was nonplussed.
