Yes Pecan! Ben & Jerry's announces their inauguration themed flavor.[More:]I suppose that Chocolate Swirl would have been a little--you know...
I'm glad this won out over the runner-up of Bush-Is-A-Sociopath Backdoor Berry Mudslide.

I hate that ice cream stores close from December to May around here. I *like* eating ice cream while walking through the snow. That's not sarcasm; I do!

Ice cream is too thick in the mouth and too drippy on the hands in July. But it's so yummy!

At any rate, I think all the Ben & Jerry's in Chicago (save the touristy one at Navy Pier) closed permanently.

Buttery ice cream with pecans. I think it's too exotic for American tastes.

That is so full of awesomeness.

Hey crush-onastick ... there's a Ben & Jerry's right by me. I live in the boring North Shore suburbs. If you ever get up this way we could have a mini-meetup there.

I love pretty much any ice cream but especially when it's got lots of stuff in it. Chocolate chips, nuts, sprinkles, swirls of caramel, coconut.

Now I want some.

i like Colbert's waffle cone vanilla.
i've got some.

That's awesome.

It took me this whole thread to figure out the joke. It's wrong. So wrong. Enough people mispronounce that nut already, and now Ben & Jerry's wants to single-handedly codify the mistake. So wrong.

I miss Cool Brittania. Strawberries and chocolate covered shortbread. Divine.

Oh, huh. As a person who pronounces "pecan" correctly, I totally didn't get it until mudpuppie's comment. She's right. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Thank you, taz. I felt very alone there for a while.

Either pronunciation is correct.

Alternate Idea: Baracky Road?

Ooh nice one jonmc.

Either pronunciation is correct.

Just because you say it's so, Yankee, don't mean that it is.
posted by mudpuppie 10 January | 14:03
pe-CAHN = nut commonly used in pies and other confections
PEE-can = a pot to piss in.

Both are "correct", of course.
posted by Wolfdog 10 January | 14:11
I'm just going with what the dictionaries say.

Neither one is more or less correct than the other.
posted by CitrusFreak12 10 January | 14:25
The name is awesome. As someone who ACTUALLY pronounces it correctly, I got the joke immediately. :)

When I lived in Vermont, I would get B&J's from their store on Church Street all year. Especially in the winter.

Up the road the corner store even had a freezer way in the back of the store where they'd sell "one off" pints for cheep cheep. I became very fat very fast but enjoyed putting on every new pound.

Ben (and Jerry's) trivia:
A friend knows Ben and told me that in addition to regular staircase in his house, Ben installed a slide from the his second to first floor.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! There's also Cheney Chocolate Torture (with real chunks of Yellow Cake).

I miss Cool Brittania.

You and me both, brother. Possibly my favorite B&J's flavor ever.
posted by scody 10 January | 15:03
OMG, there's no more Cool Brittania? *sad*

Nthing mudpuppie. It took me a full thirty seconds to "get" the Ben & Jerry's pun. Because "pecan" does NOT rhyme with "we can" ... it just ... doesn't!
posted by brina 10 January | 19:17
Now now, Miss Lamont. Round tones, round tones. If it doesn't rhyme, you're not saying it right.
