Auto-ImmuneFilter: Enbrel Users Here? [More:]

I finally got the okay to start Enbrel (pending a TB test) today from a new Dermatologist. Kind of scary - they hustled me off to a little room and gave me my Enbrel Kit, which basically is like one of those coldpacks that you take to work, but instead of a Thermos inside, you get the red hazard box to toss your sticks in.

Any bunnies on this drug and can share your stories, concerns, Life On Enbrel Wisdom?

The docs make it sound like I've entered some new, scarier zone of treatment that demands careful observation, and I'm a little freaked right now.

Not only that, but I have no idea if I'll even have benefits long enough to keep buying the stuff - it's heinously expensive.

Is this about your arthritis?? Damn, dude, I'm sorry it's gotten that bad, if so. *hug*

Dunno anything about the drug, but good luck with it.

My brother uses it. From what I gathered, there's a bit of a mental barrier one needs to cross in order to stab yourself with a needle, but after a few doses it becomes easier.

Also, airport security doesn't have a problem with it if you stick it in your carry-on.

I only have sympathy for you, but I'm sorry I don't have anything else to tell you.

The needle part doesn't faze me at all - I did methotrexate self-injections for months, and brothers and sisters, let me tell you: if you can hack filling a cow syringe with bright BRIGHT yellow fluid right in your gut, you can do many things.

Yeah, it's more for the squirrelly effect on my immune system than anything else.

I have heard nothing but good things about it, but they've been second- and third-hand good things.

I have chronic psorisis and the Drs. are just now advising that I try this( after 4-5yrs). I am ready. If I can get 6 mos. without any symptoms it is worth it to me.
I don't always have visible patches, but I always have pathches. From scalp to toes. Is that TMI?

I wish enbrel was available in the UK for psoriasis. I know that Caridee who won ANTM a couple of years back had very bad psoriasis that was cleared with enbrel.

A coworker of mine takes Enbrel for some exotic back/bone condition that I can't remember the name of. It DEFINITELY depresses her immune system, but, and let me stress this, she does not exactly do anything to mitigate the issue, since she routinely stays out all night, drinks A LOT, etc. So, when she gets sick, she has superbugs that nearly take out the whole office (or, did, since my boss is now making her stay home if she even thinks she's ill).

Anecdata: Coworker fell and skinned her nose, and went off the Enbrel to get it to heal. Month or so later, nose broke out in some mystery issue. Turns out that while her nose was skinned and she was on the Enbrel, she came into contact with HSV-1, and now she is apparently going to break out with that business on her face periodically. Bizarre. So, they mean it - you have to go off it in order to protect yourself when you have an open, ah, issue, I suppose.
