I'm a great-uncle! →[More:]Today my nephew's girlfriend gave birth to a little boy. She's a week overdue, they tried to induce, but then did a C-section. He was awfully secretive, as her entire family was there, but he didn't want either my dad (the one with dementia, who was his legal guardian along with my mom) or his birth mom (who has interfered with their relationship) around, so my mom and I weren't allowed either, I guess.

I had advised him to scrap his plan to call his mom "the next day or maybe the one after that" because this is her first grandchild and, well, you know. You can deal with 15 minutes of fuss in order to avoid a lifetime of "And I didn't hear about it until later!"

At least there's that good news. (I won't put any of the bad news in this thread.)
