When you can't remember a thing you want to remember... [More:]
Last year I saw a girl on the metro wearing a really cute parka. I made a mental note of the brand and looked it up at home later, but either decided they were too expensive or (possibly) found out there was embroidered embellishment on the shoulder that was facing away from me, which I didn't like.

Now I've got this idea that I need to look up this brand again, and I can't for the life of me remember the name, and it's making me insane. It's actually keeping me up doing a zillion searches and scanning brand names.

It seems to me the brand was related to the whole skateboard/snowboard world, though perhaps not as a producer of actual gear: just a lifestyle brand. The buttons on the coat had the name on them, in a semi-circle around the holes, top and bottom. That's what has me thinking it's two words, but it could have been one word split up. I think the name was kind of generic (along the lines of "American Design" or "Plan Corp.", something not a short, "people" name like Burton or whatever.) For a moment I was convinced it was Obermeyer, but I've pretty much ruled that out. So basically, I have no idea what the name was.

The parka itself was a matte, perhaps cotton-like material. Slim cut, with princess seams. It was a medium blue, kind of like a steel blue. I think it had a hood. And it was a longer cut -- between hip and knee, maybe a little closer to the hip than the knee, but a tiny bit longer than your average parka.

I know the chances of anyone knowing this are incredibly slim based on this ridiculously vague description, but I have the feeling I may never sleep again. It's like a compulsion once I realize it's not even NEAR the tip of my tongue.

To make up for the uselessness of this thread, then, please feel free to add your random thoughts or stupid questions about anything.
American Apparel?

Have you tried trolling the store catalogs? most of them have a "filter by brand" option where they show like a dozen brands (if it's snowboard related, check REI, for example)

Of course, it won't work if it's some sort of vertical brand...

Born and raised in Wisconsin, I immediately think of a thick down parka. Is that what you mean?

North Face?

Based primarily on the 'embroidered embellishment on the shoulder that was facing away from me' part, and partially on the ubiquity of the brand, The North Face seems like a possibility.

If it's from a snow/skate company, you might browse sites like Active Ride Shop or CCS. Or, if it's from a regular outdoor company, check out Backcountry.com, REI, MEC, EMS, Campmor, etc.

Thanks guys. Nothing yet. I had never heard of the brand before, and I'm Canadian and lived in the Rockies at one time -- this, not Columbia, North Face, Merrell, Burton, or anything famous like that. The embroidery thing might be a weird red herring -- I have a feeling it might have been the reason I didn't pursue it further, but it's entirely possible I just pulled that out of my partial-idea-addled brain. If it was, the design had to be on the left shoulder (from the wearer's perspective.)

This is roughly the kind of parka:

Except no fur on the hood.

Incidentally, have snowboarder clothes for women ever become cute in the last 15 years!)

I DID sleep last night, but in my dream I had to become a prostitute so as to avoid being murdered by a mafia-like organization. Related?
