AskMecha: How easy/hard is it to author a DVD? →[More:]So the boss said she was interested in getting a DVD put together that has our very large brochure and additional information about our listings on it. How easy is it to author one, what free programs are out there (Mac or PC, because I could possibly steal her Mac laptop for a while to do it), etc.?

Alternately, how much could I expect to be charged to get one done and how much would they laugh at me if I said we had a week to put it together?

I wish I had some helpful info for you. I had to make on years agao and we did it in flash instead of making it a DVD. I don't think I can remember how to write the auto run.

Best of luck finding some better info. I'm sure there is some out there on the web somewhere.

I just did a general search for Make A DVD Presentation and got some interesting results for software.

It occurs to me that if you only have a week, you may benefit from using trial version(s) of decent software you find on the web. The first one in the search, Power Point 2 DVD, looks like a great place to start.

I've been authoring DVDs for years with different softwares. I'm currently using Adobe Encore, which is miles ahead of the early stuff. I think you can get a 30 free trial download.

The nice thing about Encore is that all the menus are Photoshop files. You can tweak them in PS to your heart's content.

I should say also that I find Encore pretty straightforward to use. Then again, I also do a lot of editing....
