I haz employment! Moving to Houston, need housing advice please. [More:]

So...anyone have ideas how I should start looking for a place? Because the combination of huge city and no car (for now, at least - car is totally my first priority once I get there) is freaking intimidating. The job is around Webster/Clear Lake, and it seems like things are a bit more pricy and suburban there than parts farther north, but the drive down I-45 from the airport was one of the scarier things I've ever attempted and I'm not keen on making that commute every day...

Are the rent agencies flooding Craigslist reliable?

(The company is providing a few weeks of hotel stay, so I'm not terribly rushed yet, but I need to know what I'm getting into. And it's just me, no family, no pets, probably a crapload of books and yarn. The parents are already threatening visits though.)
You need some Wolfdaddy!

I had a friend use apartment hunter. She just looked around online at different agencies. Worked out well for her. Also, if you're able to buy, housing is dirt cheap.

Heya, I've lived in Houston for like 13 years and totally love it. Email me: matthewbrownlie at the gmail. I might not be able to get back to you until the weekend, though.

I know tons of people who've used apartment locators and have heard zero bad feedback. YMMV.

Yeah, email me!

If you have some questions, I can help as well. I am in the northwest, near Tomball. mikew(at)thecomputervalet(dot)com(mie)

I just saw this ... email me at wolfdaddy at teh gmail.com -- all my properties are on the southwest side of Houston, so it'd be quite a drive for you to get to work. Nevertheless, e-mail me at wolfdaddy at teh gmail if you have any questions. And welcome, y'all!
