Ask MeCha: Kinda stupid wireless question [More:]So the boss is traveling to Europe and we're prepping her for her trip. We've made sure she has travel chargers, her phone has international calling, etc. when the other assistant asked me if the hotel's complimentary wireless Internet would work on her Mac laptop.

"Of course it will work!" I said... and then I paused because now I'm not completely sure.

So, my question is: Is a wireless signal the same in the U.K. as it is in the U.S.?

Other question: What are some things you've had to double-check that you are fairly certain you know the answers to, but once someone asks you, then you become unsure about?
Yes, Wi-Fi is the same everywhere.

(Actually American Wi-Fi equipment is restricted to a slightly narrower range of channels than European (1-11 vs 1-13), so there's a teeny possibility of problems, but I've never heard of it actually occurring)

I can confirm that my 3+ year-old powerbook's wireless worked fine when I was last in the UK (December 07).

The only problem she will find is that very few places offer FREE wi-fi. So, outside of the hotel she may have to pay.

My sanity. :)

Just about anything I get questioned on. Before the question I'm certain but once the question is out there doubts flood in.
