Shuffle-a-gogo anyone? 10 songs in a row on shuffle on the music delivery device of your choice. →[More:] I'm in the process of putting a good portion of my collection onto the hard drive to make it easier to rotate stuff on and off my MP3 player and make mix discs. I've got about 14,000 songs loaded so far, so I figured now's a good time to shuffle for a test spin. I usually only loaded favorite tracks onto my MP3 player, so pretty much anything that came up on shuffle was a gem. But here I'm loading whole albums, so it's weird to have so much stuff come up that I don't recognize right away. Or even weirder, songs I don't really like that much. But it's definitely rekindled my love for many long neglected and forgotten records.

Here's mine with some real time comments.

1. Superchunk - Every Single Instinct (Indoor Living 2007) - One of the weaker songs one of the weaker Superchunk albums.

2. Foo Fighters - Times Like These (One by One 2002) - I'm not sure where the pendulum currently is on the Foo Fighters, but I love them immensely and have since that first album. This album was a little thin, but the three or four great songs, like this one, just kick.

3. Queen - I Can't Live With You (Inuendo 1991) - Wow, this song doesn't even sound familiar to me. Although, for the last few Queen albums, they were really a singles band to me. But it's still nice to hear that comforting Brian May guitar and I'm a sucker for the full on Queen harmonies.

4. Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby - First mate Rigby (s/t 2008) - I have no idea how these two hooked up, but I'm glad they did. Good ol' sloppy and fun rock.

5. Bobby Womack - You're Welcome, Stop On By (the Soul Years) - I didn't know much of Bobby's own recordings until this hits collection came out. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that this was Curtis Mayfield.

6. Gravel Pit - Enemy (Mass Avenue Freeze Out (2001) - One of the better songs from a pretty bland album, which was a shame since it followed up Silver Gorilla, one of my favorite albums of the past 15 years.

7. Jack's Mannequin (with Mick Fleetwood) - God (Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur 2007) - I recall not being that impressed with this cover of John Lennon's "God" when I first got the record, but here it sound pretty solid. A very faithful cover, which may be why it didn't impress me. What's the point of doing a cover if you're not going to add something new. Although I don't really see what Mick Fleetwood adds to this, other than his name.

8. Lily Allen - Nan You're A Window Shopper (Alright, Still 2006) I thought I was going to tire of Lily Allen pretty quickly, but I still love this whole damn album.

9. Mystery Machine - Underground (Glazed 1993) Dissonant guitar rock that sounds a bit like Dinosaur Jr. This song seems to steal several bits from Sonic Youth's Goo album. Back in the day this seemed real innovative, but now it sounds pretty dated.

10. the Dukes of Hamburg - Hey Joe (Some Folks 2002) Throw-away garage rock from the guitarist for the Mummies. But one man's trash is another's treasure, and I love this shit!
