I started a new (temp) job today, and it was great! →[More:] Yay, they found me a job! It's supposed to last about 3 months. The pay is really good for temp work (and especially good after having been soooooo poor for soooooo long). Next month, I'll actually be able to save money!
There's also basic health insurance, which is a change from when I temped last.
The people were really nice, unlike the first few temp jobs I had here, 8 years ago. The woman I'm helping was genuinely grateful for the help, and she seemed to recognize immediately that I'm not some stupid person who needs to be babysat. When I figured stuff out on my own, she was thrilled. (She also used to work for a separate division of the department that made me run screaming away from the university, and we have a good friend in common. I told her I was there for three-and-a-half years, and that "that was enough," and she nodded knowingly and rolled her eyes. So I know she knows they were crazy, and that was really reassuring.)
Also, everyone referred to me by name, and not as "The Temp." Being called "The Temp" at one of my first go-rounds was one of the main reasons I was so resistant to it this time. But no, they didn't do that!
It was cold and wet and windy on my walk home from the bus stop, but all in all, a very good day!
Things didn't look so good this morning. At 7:45 I was frantically trying to get ahold of PG&E to make sure they knew the electric bill was paid over the weekend. Hold time was 45 minutes, but they promise to call you back when it's your turn. They didn't call back by the time we left at 9, so GF agreed to go by their office and talk to someone in person. On her way to drop me off at my new job, she got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign and not noticing a pedestrian. Fortunately, the cop didn't want to stand in the rain and write a ticket, so he just gave her a quick lecture. At least my day got better.
