WTF is wrong with this picture? →[More:]I'm sad and cranky and tired and all I want to do is make a .mp3 file into a ring tone for my iPhone. I downloaded some stupid fucking program, installed it, fucked around with it for fucking ever and it just didn't work. Now the fucking free trial period is over and I can't even try again.

Surely there is an easy way to do this? It's fucking 2008, for fuck's sake! I just want this one tiny fucking thing to work - is that too much to ask? It's a 3G phone running 2.1 if anyone gives a flying fuck.

caveat: I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, don't have an iPhone, never made a ring tone, and have no idea what iTunes 8 is. Just my pathetic long shot at trying to ease your pain.

I can't help, but I can relate. I tried to make a ringtone for my Ericson one time...then gave up and set it to vibrate instead. Technology can really be a demon bitch sometimes. (no offense to any demon bitches in the crowd)

Making iPhone ringtones is hard. Lets go shopping.
On a mac, you can sort of do it using Garage Band.
It's a royal pain in the ass though.

(Although that m4r tip in taz's link is extra useful)

taz, I could kiss you all over! I had given up prior to upgrading to iTunes 8, but this worked a treat, once I cut the file down to 30 seconds (didn't work before that, though).

It is slightly possible that life is worth living after all. Slightly.

I thought mega-millionaire media conglomerates have made a successful business model out of you NOT being able to home-cook your ring tones? That might have something to do with your frustration - i.e., it is a feature not a bug?
