Have you been surprised recently, pleasantly or unpleasantly? I was just promoted to Project Manager of a small design thing I've been working on. Except no one informed me.[More:]Well, unless you count "randowm co-workers stopping to congratulate me" as proper notification.
Cool. Ask for a raise.

Unfortunately, it's not that kind of promotion. It's more of the, "More responsibilities but no extra money" type. I think it's an engineering thing - my title "Research Engineer" has nothing to do with my job "Project Manager".

I posted a question about online printers, and a very kind Mefite offered to print the document I needed for me at their office (thank you, company!), which I said, well OK, but don't go to too much trouble, it is over 300 pages. I got it this morning via overnight express- and it was in a beautiful binder! With a printed label on the cover! That was a very nice suprrise.

Well, not a total surprise because I applied for it, but I was extremely surprised to get the job I started a couple of weeks ago (Manager of our unit) after completely stuffing up the written task during the interview (basically, was given wrong instructions and didn't even get to start the task in any meaningful way) - apparently I was so far ahead of the other candidates (one of whom was already in the job and had been for six months or so) that my 0 for the written task (weighted at 20%) didn't matter! Was also surprised this afternoon when my boss said, while walking out the door "I'm glad that, with you now in that office, I can feel comfortable in leaving here before 5 in the knowledge that, if the sky falls, someone is here to catch it".
