I'm proud of myself Success stories of the day![More:]
After the ram-upgrade fiasco[1] I'm pleased to report... I successfully swapped out one hard drive for another![2]
I used acronis to mirror my old drive to the new, and with a small amount of fiddling and no swearing or sweating got the old out, the new into the tray, the tray into the tower, and everything hooked up and into place.
And it works!
And, amazon fucked up my order... the 320GB drive I got arrived as a 500gb drive. Didn't notice until I went to check properties after the swap. "380gb free space... whaaaa?"

[1]still NO IDEA what the problem is there. My motherboard takes PC2700 DDR DIMMs. But only in theory, apparently.
[2]turns out half the noise was the dying old drive. the other half is the dying fan. I'm now second-guessing my repairs to a three year old system, even if the fan is only $30.
Awesome :)

Congrats! Me, I got through another day, finished a bunch of work (even though I felt soo tired). Now I'm home, watching Michael Moore on Larry King, semi-contented.

I successfully grappled with medical billing coding for six hours beneath fluorescent lights and did not kill anyone! Success! I also then cooked a really marvelous dinner (grilled steaks, carrots sauteed with butter and sage, salad with romaine, garden-grown tomatoes, and avocado and homemade vinaigrette dressing) without losing either my cool or my appetite.

Seriously, I kick ass. :-)

(Though, to be fair, I did burn my arm while dealing with the carrots. But I think my best dinners pretty much always involve a flesh wound, so I'm ok with the trade-off.)

I got in 30 miles on my bicycle today!

that salad sounds good. I don't eat enough avocado. I wish my climate was more hospitable to them.

It was good. We only had avocado because ikkyu made me buy some at Costco, though, and we had no starch for the meal so I wanted to add something a bit fattening to balance out my alcohol consumption.

Because ikkyu makes the best fucking Manhattan in the history of all Manhattans.

(Vinaigrette: Whisk together 1 Tablespoon of dijon mustard, some salt, and 1 Tablespoon of vinegar, preferably balsamic or champagne vinegar. Slowly whisk in 3-4 Tablespoons of olive oil. Pepper the salad, then add the dressing. Voila! You're a gourmet. (This works even if you're only dressing torn-up romaine or mesclun. But then you call it a "green salad" and pretend that you are French.))

I researched all the articles that were on the syllabus for my one class and I also ordered a new public library card (been on my list for a few years) due to the fact that I need to ILL a book with another article that isn't available online. (And I refuse to drive an hour each way just to go to the real campus to check out the one copy of the book that's on reserve.)
