What movie can you watch a hundred times on cable? [More:]
I'm watching "Secrets and Lies". I love this movie. I can watch it over and over. I have probably seen it twenty times.

Other movies that I can watch again and again: Hannah and Her Sisters, Howards End, A Night at the Roxbury, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Groundhog Day, A Christmas Story. I'm sure I'm forgetting many.
Brenda Blethyn is such a wonderful actress. She makes the movie.

VH-1 is apparently playing a James Bond marathon (???).

Dunno wtf is up with that, but I can watch any of the non-Moore ones like a majillion times.
posted by Eideteker 30 August | 15:21
Animal House, Legally Blonde, Beetlejuice, Hitchcock's movies, any of the Connery Bonds and most of the Moores, just off the top of my head.

Big Lebowski; True Romance; Bull Durham; Doc Hollywood (When you gonna bring your pig back round...); Heaven Can Wait (I love at the end, when she realizes and says, You're the quarterback -- I'm such a sap.); Apocalypse Now; Taxi Driver; Die Hard; Rocky (especially with Jon); Clerks I & II; Roustabout (Elvis!); Star Trek IV...

I love movies.

Oh, and High Fidelity. But I don't see that one playing as much any more.

Oooh... some of these are embarrassing to admit, but anytime I see one of these is on I have a compulsion to watch:

Troop Beverly Hills (do NOT ask, I have no idea what I see in this movie)
Clerks II (omg, did he say Pillowpants??)
Shaun of the Dead (only zombie movie I will watch)
Kill Bill I & II (best movie(s) ever)
Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny (sass can fly!)
Napoleon Dynamite (steak to the face!)
Carrie (they're called breasts momma!)
Fried Green Tomatoes (aw c'mon, it's a great chick flick)
Queen of the Damned (oh the humanity)

Gotta add In the Line of Fire and Total Recall. Gotta get ol' Clint and Arnold in there.

And My Cousin Vinny. It's been playing lately. Irresistible.

ooh. I love High Fidelity, too. That was on a couple weeks ago. I watched it again.

I thought of some others that I never tire of:

Mystic Pizza
Say Anything
Shag
Sideways

And My Cousin Vinny

I love My Cousin Vinny. I think my husband I know most of the dialogue by heart.

Falling In Love

I watched this movie several summers ago half a dozen times or more. I love this movie. The train. The anticipation. The book exchange at Christmas. I hated Robert De Niro for leaving his wife and kids but I loved that he loved Meryl Streep. Oh, I love this movie (as well as Heartburn, Manhattan and a ton of other movies listed here). Thanks for the reminder, essexjan.

Escape from new york! I can't believe no one's mentioned it! I love that film.

OMG yes Apocalypse Now. Turnervision was running a Brando thingy yesterday (I can't believe I've never seen On the Waterfront before), and it came on about midnight. I've seen Apocalypse Now a bazillion times, but it never fails to impress the hell out of me. I even turned the tv off and went up to bed around two, only to give my head a shake and go right back downstairs to watch the rest. You can't go that far up the Nung and not ride the boat to the end. (Also, BOP will verify that when I found out it was going to be on, I spent the preceding hour saying, "Saigon...shit" over and over and giggling like a loon. And "Never get out of the boat" was the watchword of my acid years. Don't tell me you don't know what I mean.)

Oh, and I would like to thank whoever made the decision to run "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly", "Fistful of Dollars", and "For a Few Dollars More" last weekend.

I ended the year last year for my AP seniors with Apocalypse Now, after reading Heart of Darkness. I like to send them off with a bang.

Pips, I think I love you.

Heh, I was thinking about it, and I actually own all of my favs, either purchased or recorded:

The Princess Bride
Fantasia
Contact
Kill Bill - must watch both in a row

When I was a kid I played Candleshoe constantly. I loved that castle.

You get an "A", e.

This year I was considering Bram Stoker's Dracula (novel and movie) as a final act, but I don't think there's any topping Apocalypse. One girl watched most of it through her fingers.

Oooh, yes, I forgot about Mystic Pizza. Though I watched that one so many times when I was in high school that I can probably still recite the whole movie, despite not having seen it in a decade.

There was also some movie with the woman who played the boss in Mystic Pizza, where she's a psychic and trains some young teenage girl to be a psychic. I've been thinking about that one lately, for some reason, and I would watch it repeatedly on cable.

Oooh yes. Kurt Russell at his hottest, and I wanted Adrienne Barbeau's tits. Also, all the little 'in' and running jokes in the movie. A great way to pass a couple of hours.

Ballet movies - Center Stage, The Turning Point, The Red Shoes, The Company, White Nights, and cheerleading movies. Plus all the 90s cheesy girly movies you've already mentioned - Clueless, Legally Blonde etc. Heavenly Creatures.

The 80s/ 90s gen X movies - Pump Up the Volume, Heathers, Reality Bites, Clerks, Singles.

I watched Adventures in Babysitting, Nightmare on Elm Street and Big Trouble in Little China repeatedly when I was a kid, and stop and watch whenever they're on now.

The 7 Up films - whenever a new one comes out they're usually all aired.

And "Never get out of the boat" was the watchword of my acid years. Don't tell me you don't know what I mean.)

Playing 'fire in the hole' in the gully behind our house was a very fun thing for a while there, and became the codeword for that general state of affairs.

Er, there's quite a few!
