All this uncertainty bugs me [More:] I loathe moving. And I try to avoid moving as much as possible. But at the end of this month, when my current lease ends, I have to move from the city where I've lived for the past 4.5 years. But it gets more complicated.

I am a month away from finishing my PhD so I am not going to renew another year lease. So I am moving back (mostly my stuff) with the folks (they live 2 hours away) and then couch surfing here for the last weeks before I turn in my dissertation. I am also interviewing for post-docs but I don't have a solid offer yet so I could be spending anywhere from 2 weeks - 3 months at home (which would drive me crazy).

I always enjoy any new city I move to but get anxious during the transition. So this means that I won't be a happy camper for the next several weeks.

The one upside to this ordeal is that I am purging practically everything I own. I am just keeping the essentials (laptop, clothes, books) and all my kitchen gear (because I'm a food geek) but everything else is getting donated/sold or recycled.
I hate moving, too.

Sounds like you're doing everything right. A grand purge right now is definitely the way to go. Good on you for keeping your favorite kitchen stuff. That won't take up too much room.

This too shall pass.

Good luck, special-k.

Purging is good. This is why I like staying in hotels. You only bring the essentials. It's simple and free.

I hear you special-k. Sounds like the preparation is worse than the actual move. But yeah, it's uprooting and frameless. And kudos on the purge. Hang in there.

Thanks for the support. Yeah, it's really the process of being uprooted that bothers me most. I just wish I could get through this sooner.
