Let us now praise Mad Men (possible spoilers). Have we not discussed this show at all yet?[More:]I love Peter Campbell. I know I'm not supposed to, but I do. Maybe it's because I spend every episode trying to figure out if he reminds me more of Matthew Broderick doing a Steve Buscemi impression, or Buscemi impersonating Broderick. Either way, I'm rooting for the guy. And I have a very serious crush on Joan. She's yummy.
Oh, man. I despise Pete Campbell! (Sorry!) The actor playing him is really great, but I think the character and I have too many of the same insecurities. Yuck.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear Frank O'Hara's "Mayakovsky" in the season premiere. Who did Draper mail O'Hara's book too? Midge, right?

I have it on the Tivo. We're watching it tonight. I missed the first season. Hopefully I can jump in without too much trouble.

I too love Pete Campbell. I feel so bad for him all the time. And I love the Peggy-Joan dynamic.

He was the actor that i caught when flipping channels so long ago. i recognized him from Angel and i'm always glad people get well employed. He's got something, but, man, do i dislike entitled, smarmy Pete Campbell, but then he gets that tragic lost look and i want him to grow up or wake up. Too bad he's trapped.
i really wanna see what happens with Peggy. i started a couple episodes in and didn't catch the first one for a long time.
And Salvatore, i really wanna see what happens to him.
i've hear last season we got to see how the office works, now we get to go home with them once in a while. Also, i hope they don't just abandon Joan's roommate character.

Season one really paid off in the last couple of episodes. I hope this season lives up to all the hype it's received.

NonoNOnoNONo you can not love Peter Cambell. My God he is exactly like one of the slimiest account men I have had to meet. Yes, sad puppy hurt inside but what a slimy broken insecure weasely little bastard. ARGH. Hate him.

He's brilliantly acted though, love that. So well done.

Oh god Salvatore I adore Salvatore. I will take a time-machine back to the sixties and be his beard/wife/ad agency partner who can write to save that poor dude from himself! I'll make his mother love me! It'll be the perfect front! :) Yes I totaly need to se what happens to him.

And Peggy. Dear dear peggy. Man I'm gonna freak If I need to wait five more months to watch this. Won't be happening. I'll wait just a little while though.

Good point Eth, I liked Joan's roommate, that was a good side-story.

They could just have disposed of her if Joan doesn't need a roommate any more. With so many characters, almost everyone but the Drapers and the Campbells just got one shot stories.
i could do with less of Don's wife but part of that is because i'm waiting for something bad to happen. She's the Hitchcock blonde, and she's tripped by a few of those movie plots already.

Honestly, that's exactly why I want her to stay in there.

I watched most of season one in one long marathon on AMC a few weeks back. It was quite addictive. I ended when the girl who didn't know she was pregnant had her baby (I figured she was pregnant when the guys in the office were so delicately noting her weight gain -- their sex scene, with the shadows and the janitor was hilarious, by the way).

What I like about the show is that you don't really like anyone. Or rather, you go back and forth between liking and disliking them. (I think anyone you know well you're ambiguous about, and oddly, I think that's a good thing.)

I'll definitely have to catch more of this.

What hooked me was that it genuinely offended me.
It was all good looking and styled, easy to watch, and then something someone said slapped me in the face.

Exactly. It reminds me a lot of Deadwood in that respect.

I think the thing about Peter Campbell is that Don Draper, the supposed protagonist, is every bit as slimy and manipulative as he is. (Probably even more so, considering his entire identity is a lie.) The difference is that Draper is handsome and debonair, whereas Campbell isn't. It's image...it's advertising at work.

I hope Midge is gone for good. I really thought the entire show screeched to a halt when she was on screen.

And nobody's mentioned Roger Sterling yet! Really, all the characters, particularly the more unlikeable ones, all have that little something that makes you unable to completely hate them.

I only heard of this show last week. Apparently it's some sort of sensation?
