The whole frickin' flat is filled with construction dust. How's your day?[More:]

Frickin' dry rot roof repair! Frickin' dry rot wall replacement!

FRICKIN' MOVING OUT OF THE FLAT FOR SIX WEEKS WHILE THEY TEAR OUT THE KITCHEN WALL AND FLOOR AND FLOOR JOISTS AND CABINTERY!!!

We're not moving out until August 8th, and there's going to be this much dust every day, we're frickin' fricked.
I've got some chalk dust on my desk.

Tell me about it. I've an attic full of the stuff. The only sensible solution to my problems appears to be to move.

my day started off kind of OMG. [ginormous pharma company] is now asking if I can stay long term as a potential replacement for a paralegal. Nothing's set in stone but if she doesn't return (and I've been filling in for her since early May) it sounds like they'll slot me into her position.

Long term? um, dudes, you hired me for a six-week contract on July 9th.... 2007!!

weird but possibly manageable. I swore I'd never work legal shit again, but this is corporate legal not firm legal (big huge difference) and I love the senior partner. He would be the salvation of this position because normally being the peon who gets to fuck around with contracts filing is about as pleasurable as shaving one's head with a cheese grater.

The good news is that this all finally got me out from under the plantwide quality audit project.

however, the commute between Denver-Boulder may just kill me. rats. I don't want to even have the discussion with the mister about potential relocation because he owns his house, we love the house and Boulder is fucking expensive.

but if I wind up taking this position and it all works out? I'll be the one making the bank and he'll be able to finish school (finally)>

hurr. wtf do I do?

I got one!

I'm in the middle of a three day headache - sinus, muscular and prolly something else too. I'm outta the good dope, my doctor (who is a saint who still calls in refills to the pharmacy) forgot to call in my refills. I was able to work from home yesterday, and actually got a lot of work done for a guy who has blinding pain in behind his eyes, along his neck and all points in-between (if you take the long route, over the top of my head).

Then, this morning, the tiniest richlette, Evelyn, starts flipping and flopping on whether she will go to her day camp at the local science centre. I end up dropping the senior richlette (Sophie, who just turned 7 yesterday!) off, then bringing Evie into my office with me. Then the impact label printers starting going off about 10 feet from my aching head. I ended up dropping the little one off at her regular day care and get home to find an email from my ever-so-intrusive helpful father in law who says "where is evie. I'll pick her up and find out what is wrong", which is really maddening cute because he always behaves like he knows them better than we do.

So far, I've not replied to his email. I think I might tell him that I've already promised to pick her up and take her shopping or something. Now if only my rats-a-fratsin' head would stop fucking hurting.

Work is being incredibly slow right now and although the boss isn't here, I doubt any of us will ball up and leave early. (Although we probably could, once the afternoon courier arrives.)

My stomach hurts and I'm sure it's just nerves and the fact that it's getting close to my lunchtime. My finger hurts but hopefully that means the possible wart-thing that I think is on there is going away.

THERE IS CONSTRUCTION DUST ALL OVER THE INSIDE OF THE KITCHEN CABINETS AND COVERING ALL THE DISHES, POTS, PANS, AND FOOD AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I'M GOING TO KILLLLLLLLLLL!

Specklet, I had construction in my house a while ago. My pantry's still dusty. Disposable swiffer dusters are really good peace-of-mind makers for all-over dust. People on eBay sell fleece replacements which are washable, and almost as effective, if you're not into using disposable dusters indefinitely.

Yeah, but I have a headache Specklet. Let that sink in for a moment. Then look into your soul. See what you find.

Our dust is not from construction, but from dried Comet-and-water paste, which turned our black-with-grime grout white, but now threatens the rest of the house with bleachy armageddon.

Someone's coming over to clean our windows today, because we always do such a horrible job that we've just contracted it out.

No one is helping me tidy things up anymore, though, and I feel like Little Red Hen, unwilling to share my baked goods with my unhelpful cobarnyardists.

It cost me £230 to get my car through its MoT today.

My everyday watch has stopped working. I thought it needed a new battery but the guy at the watch place said it had water in it (probably from when I got drenched on the way home from work on Monday).

My hand still hurts like a mofo.

I had to cancel the boiler service because the plumber phoned at 9am to say he wouldn't be there at 9am as arranged, but 'any time between noon and six o'clock'. Excuse me? I had arranged my day around his 9am supposed call.

I got a reject letter from a job I'd applied for.

But on the good side I bought a beautiful summer handbag for £10, reduced from £140, and a Charles Tyrwhit ladies' shirt for £10, reduced from £85.

Best of all, I got some noise-cancellation headphones for £14.99 (yay, Aldi!) Not quite Bose, but one-tenth the price. I'm sure Bose can't be ten times better.

And Aldi also do the most scrummy short ribs in BBQ sauce, one of which I had for dinner, 5 minutes in the microwave.

Gahh, Specklet!!!! I'm just waiting to see how long it will take the latest captain of industry in my building to decide he doesn't like the place, leave and sell it to someone who undergoes his own multiyear project.

I have serious regrets that I passed up the Clift house.

Reading in the Herald Tribune how Obama pandered to the right about the survelliance act makes me glad I sat out the primary. This is NOT compromise, it is "peace in our time".

I'm glad I'm away from NY, but I didn't expect Switzerland to be quite as hot as it's been.
