Happy 129th Birthday, Canada! On June 20, 1868, a proclamation signed by the Governor General,
Lord Monck, called upon all Her Majesty's loving subjects throughout Canada to join in the celebration of the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada on July 1st.

The July 1 holiday was established by statute in 1879, under the name
Dominion Day.
Traditionally the day is celebrated with a feast of hams and cod, and the singing of the British National Anthem. Some families chose to observe Canada day by stocking the
Royal Spruce that every Canadian has in their home with Canadian icons such as Mountie hats and hockey pucks.
Most will follow the traditions and dress in the a
Canadian Overcoat and Dominion Skirt, some Canadians just want to kick back and take a day off from the Farm, logging camp, maple syrup factory or fishing boat and just enjoy a heaping bowl of poutine.
Ask any Canadian about this and it will be denied as we are strictly forbidden from talking about it.
