I just got totally h0sed by my insurance company, and Must Rant: [More:]I bought a new house several months ago. I got homeowners insurance. So I sat at the insurance company and many forms were filled out with my name, address, and phone. I wrote checks with abandon to pay for insurance. Time passes. I get a random check from the insurance company, with an explanation that makes no sense, but thanks for sending me 931.00 USian dollars, which I can really, really use. I deposit the check, and base spending decisions on having 931 extra dollars.

The insurance company reverses the check, 10 days after it was deposited. Credit card payment bounces, so far nothing else. Pay will be deposited tomorrow, and things will be very, very tight, but we can afford to eat, and even buy dog food. The old house is under contract, and has @ a 70% chance of closing, which would solve all the $$ troubles.

Insurance company local rep. says they tried to call me, but didn't have my current number(see above). I explain that I just was in their office and gave them my home and work numbers more than once. They have no explanation for this particular cluelessness. Local rep will call the big, mean, faceless insurance company and try to get an explanation for why the check was reversed.

This whole deal with electronic banking, and reversible checks, is pretty bl33ping evil. Bland cubeclerks who don't have the sense to apologize when their company screws me over make my palms sweat with pissedoffedness. My anger is righteous and pure, but I'm still gonna be screwed, cause they have the power to screw me. I would like to have the ability to smite them, right this very minute. Smiting would be useful, and I would use it for good.
That sucks! I hope you get it straightened out and they apologize.

I've been having health insurance woes.
For some reason, Cigna thinks I am a man.
This means that none of my birth control pills, gyno visits, gardisil shots, etc are covered. Then I tell them that I am a woman, and they say
"Yes, you told us that two months ago, so we changed it, then we reversed it again."

WHY DID YOU REVERSE IT?
I TOLD YOU I AM A WOMAN AND I NEVER TOLD YOU I WAS ABOUT TO BECOME A MAN.
PAY FOR MY PILLS, JERKS!

It will cost you many hours on hold to get this money back, but it seems like you can, if you are willing to submit to their meatgrinder of a system, they eventually have to give it back to you, even if you are dead by then.

That stinks. Kick them. Like, uh, in spirit.

It's infuriating to come up against a power that big and faceless, and especially infuriating when they've screwed you.

Danf makes a good point: you may be able to recoup the damages (e.g., any bank fees charged). After I was similarly screwed by some company or another a decade ago, they ended up not only paying my fees but also paying me for the time I invested in straightening out their mess (which added up to about two hours, and twenty bucks, but that was a sweet little psychological bonus).
