I feel your pain, Slack. My entire department will be outsourced to more expensive and less competent companies by sometime next year (in the name of cost-cutting and streamlining, of course).

The Office Space stuff has been running through my head quite a bit lately! I'd like to think that I'm that ease with myself since I'm very confident in my skills and what I do for the company. But then part of me goes "I'm Interviewing for damn job!!!" and suddenly I feel more vulnerable.

Since we don't know how deep the cuts are (and won't know until they're announced ina few weeks) I don't know what my odds are. Geographically I'm at a disadvantage, but other than that I think I've got a good shot. Of course though, this is the time self doubt shows it's ugly head and you question everything.

BoPo - I totally forgot about that Trainspotting scene. That was hysterical and makes me realize that I need to see that movie again!

Things were much easier in life when I lived with my parents and the biggest worry in my life was that the new cut-out records would arrive at the record store I worked at on a day I was off and my coworkers would poach all of the good stuff. Those were the days.

Goddamn, I hate that they make people do this. I'm sure you'll kick ass, Slack. It's your job, you've been doing it for a very long time, you know your shit. Give 'em hell. (Er, by which I mean impress the hell out of them, rather than, you know, telling them what's what. For now.)

Thanks for good words! I finished my phone interview and now I can enjoy the long weekend! I think I did good, I'd rate my performance a B+. I've had a dwindling account base so the success stories aren't as dramatic (a million little ones as opposed to one or two stand-out dramatic "wow" successes), which is really the only reason I hedged on some of the answers.

Now I wait a few weeks until the changes are announced and we find out who sticks around and who leaves. I'm confident of my performance, so if I don't make the cut I think that it will be because my numbers don't fit into their beancounter's Excel chart or becasue I'm geographicly in the wrong place.

Either way, I've had a hell of a run and have genuinely loved my job and am proud of the work I've done, so I consider myself lucky. Not many people get to look forward to going work. Speaking of work, I'm off the clock in just a few hours (this is written on my break) and getting ready for the weekend. Whooh whooh!

I've been laid off 4 times, and late last year changed jobs at my company to miss major cuts in the group I left. It definitely sucks to have to endure that stuff, especially when you just know the fat cats are getting fatter all the while.
