Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but if you already have the proper cable box, can't HBO be switched on and off with just a phone call? I believe you could cancel this month and pick up a few months later when a new show materializes, without incurring any sort of 'sign-up' or installation fee. I'm pretty sure plenty of people cancel HBO in between seasons of their favorite shows.

I have only watched HBO stuff on disk. We are far too cheap to have ANY cable, let alone the high end stuff.

My wife is home tutoring now, and she'll go into these dirt-poor, chaotic households, and see the plasma TV's with cable. We wonder about that.

But we have enjoyed Dead Like Me, Six Feet Under, Queer as Folk, The L Word, Big Love, and a few others.

They have been teasing new shows before episodes of The Wire lately.

I've been a subscriber of HBO for decades now. I added Showtime to watch Weeds and Dexter. And the way those bastards at Time Warner are you pay $10.95 for the first pay channel and $8 for the second. And each network has about 10 channels so I've actually been surprised to be cruising through the line to see a movie or comedy special I'd like to see.

You can ditch HBO over the phone, it is possible they might give you a discounted rate for a few months rather than lose you.

The last article I read said that HBO hasn't lost customers since Sopranos stopped. The Wire has never been a great ratings draw.

I liked the weirdness of John From Cincinatti and am pissed they canceled that after one season rather than giving it a chance to grow on people.

I wish I could just get HBO, Showtime, HDNet, HD Movies and Comedy Central. And BBC News (not BBC America until they get a few more shows that aren't house fix up shows). The other channels just suck.
