My B-movie daydream. I love love LOVE the concept behind
this book, and it's a shame the book itself gets such a weak review. It sounds like it'd make a great movie, though...
→[More:] and I'd love to see my hero
Larry Cohen write the screenplay. He wrote the movie
Phone Booth, originally for Alfred Hitchcock. He's directed everything from blaxploitation to monster movies, but he's a better "idea guy" than he is a director.
So, who to direct? Roger Corman has already done too many racing-type movies, even a
dystopian one. Tarantino just did
Death Proof, and Robert Rodriguez has comic-booked himself to death with GrindHouse plus the
Sin City movies (two more are coming out, eventually). Besides, we already know how those guys do genre pics. Maybe Alex Aja, the guy who did the remake of
The Hills Have Eyes (which is the only movie in the glut of 70s-horror remakes that I thought was any good).
I know there are at least a couple of bunnies who share my love of racing movies/B-movies/horror movies... who'd be a good director for this? And who knows a Hollywood agent we can bug to get this idea out there? :)
