Another Ethical Sitch So I am walking down Willamette St., which passes as the main drag. It's cold and drizzly. I am on my way to the gym. I notice a
→[More:] $20 on the sidewalk, folded in fourths.
I pick it up, and look around for anyone visibly looking for something. There is only one other person on the street, and she goes into an espresso place. I sort of lurk out on the sidewalk, waiting for her to look in her purse and then act like there should be a twenty in there but it's gone. No such behavior. She's coming out and I approach her and say I found something, asking her if she lost anything. She may or may not have been reaching for her pepper spray, but in any event, she's not into interacting with me.
So, no one else within 2 blocks (that is how hopping our downtown is), I pocket the bill and keep walking to the gym.
I feel $20 richer but also unsettled. Someone's out this money, and it may be a significant amount. But how does one figure this out?
Is there anything that any of you would do, differently?
