Smells like burning! I microwaved a cookie for 30 seconds [More:] and caused billowing clouds of smoke to fill the entire second floor of the building. In front of our entire office staff, including my boss. I am mortified. It's worse than burned popcorn.

It was practically raw! 30 seconds!

Luckily the smoke detectors/sprinklers/fire department were not involved.

Anyone else do something asinine today?
Congrats, you are now this guy!

Seriously, though, I did a cookie for ten seconds once because I didn't believe three was enough, and the smoke from that was pretty bad. I can't imagine what happens after thirty.

Have you ever microwaved a cup of raw chocolate chip cookie dough? It puffs up into a heavenly little souffle of deliciousness and then you eat it with a spoon.

A friend of mine's four year old microwaved a slice of pizza for 5 hours. i don't know how long it was in there but there was much smoke and crying and they need a new microwave.

i also know a guy who microwaved a piece of bread for ten minutes and had to have a small hospital evacuated.

I never had a microwave oven, how long should you bake a cookie in there? like 1 sec?

I did something like that once in high school. I nuked some frozen garlic bread and instead of hitting 5 minutes, I hit 50. Didn't notice until I smelled smoke.

It took several days to get the smell of garlic out of the house completely. We ended up tossing the microwave entirely because it was so trashed.

As far as stupid things done today, I picked up a batch of microfiche with the rubber band. About 100 pieces. All over the floor and out of order. Goddamnit.

well, it seems that the smoke smell has mostly dissipated.

That's what I was actually worried about. I work in a health clinic. Oops.

Not so far today. However... Remember me saying something about how fixed gears + ice don't mix? Well, they still don't. And I know this. And have known it for twenty years. And yet, I still haven't seemed to catch on. So I rode my fixie to work yesterday because it was WARM + GORGEOUS when I left the house. Only there was just this minor thing about how it snowed something like 3" by the time I left. I figured it had to have been so warm during the day that it couldn't possibly have frozen on the roadways yet, right?

EPIC FAIL. I busted my arse THREE TIMES just between work and the bus stop (two blocks away). My left knee now resembles a baseball. And to add insult to injury I then had to wait a half hour for a bus because traffic was so messed up. And then missed my transfer, because the damn bus was so late.

I left work at 4.30 and didn't make it home until almost 7. In nice weather, or failing that, with the right equipment, it's a fifteen-minute ride. I could have WALKED home faster. And I couldn't ask the mister to come rescue my stoopid ass because he had class last night, AND got stuck due to the weather (yep, you got it, he drove all the way there, THEN they cancelled class and sent folks home... *sigh*). And last but not least, I was too dumb to bail out and get a colleague to give me a lift (yep, you guessed it, they offered, I said 'nah, I'll just take the bus'). ARGH.

Once at work I microwaved something - I forget what but it wasn't metallic - and it caught fire after maybe 10 seconds. It took me a few more seconds to get back from the sink, the microwave started going BZZZZT BZZZT, co-workers said it looked like lightning was being reflected off the walls. Anyway, everyone came running, including management... That was a mortifying experience.
