Why I'm glad I no longer practise criminal law. [More:]

The court heard Mr Dixie had said he had been drinking, took drugs and had "taken advantage of the situation".

And he thinks this will get him acquitted?
It seems the world is filled with sociopaths. I've taken up watching shows like Forensic Files and The Investigators again. I've laid off for about 7 years, but now I'm back to watching for some reason. I imagine it won't last long. There is only so much murder a person can take.

Sheesh. . these people are still entitled to legal representation. It must be a hard one for any lawyer.

On the flipside, the ability for wealthy and famous defendants to beat the system, especially when the system is under-funded, still grates on me.

I have to admit that having 2 thefts happen, within a year, has somewhat hardened my attitude towards people who commit crimes that impact other people.

heh. I thought they were quoting that sample Rob Zombie uses in his songs, but it's not exactly the same, now that I think about it.

Why is having sex with a corpse somehow more horrifying than a plain old murder, or even rape then murder? It really freaks people out.

Rapes and murders freak me out more, and institutionalized "for your own good" Hope Steffey situations freak me out the most, justified or not; when the authorities are doing it, no one's going to come to your rescue.

Somehow I've been in the vicinity 3 different times lately when people were tied to a gurney by police and EMTs. I'm always wrecked for a couple days.

Yeah. It's not like she was using her body anymore for anything.

But you're right. I think, for people, it just adds to the whole picture. Life the Dahmer guy keeping this and that in the fridge. The crimes are bad enough, but the window dressing, supplied by this narrative, stands out. Which is a sad comment on our society.

What I find so abhorrent about it is this. Imagine for one minute that he's not lying through his ass and what he says is true, that he found her, dead, and decided to fuck her. What kind of an inhuman disconnect is there in someone's brain who would do that?

Definitely whacked and depressing, but not as horrifying as violence to live people.

Wrong. It seems that the media delights in making one THINK that this is the case.

This is why I no longer watch television, and seek my news through channels that are as unbiassed as I can make them.
