Update on my grandmother [More:] She's still at the care facility on a feeding tube; the insurance will only cover another week. The women who had been caring for her at her home have been doing this here (my coke addict youngest uncle has been court ordered to stay away from one of them, the woman who had been abusing her and his relatives other than my grandmother after making threats when it was clear that the cash flow from his parents would dry up) Then she goes back home, the feeding tube will be removed and the death watch begins.

I went out with my cousin tonight and she told me that my mother's first younger brother had been reluctant to remove the feeding tube, but I guess he has been convinced that this will be for the best.
Ouch, I'm sorry to hear this, brujita.

There are studies that show that dying people are more comfortable when they are *not* eating and drinking, or when they only eat and drink when they want to (which is not much). I think that the body is trying to shut down.

When my brother was dying after a long illness, one of the doctors wanted to keep him hydrated with an IV. My brother (and my parents when my brother was no longer able to speak) wanted nothing to keep him alive, not even fluid. (His/their choice.) That same day, one of the studies came out in the newspaper.
