17 January 2008

I've been watching Old School Sesame Street on DVD and it's freakin' great! (Especially the music...)[More:]

Some of the good stuff:
Richie Havens performs "Wonder Child"
"Subway Song"
Philip Glass w/ animation
Ernie sings "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon"
"Telephone Rock"
And of course, the funky chimes of "Funding provided by..."
So cool!

I saw those DVDs on sale last weekend, and seriously considered getting them. I may have to.

I still have a bunch on VHS tapes - full shows that I recorded in the late 80s and early 90s. My favorite song is "Follow the Arrows".

Unfortunately we no longer own a....whoa I can't remember the name of the thing that plays those tapes. A VCR? A VCR player?

Sesame Street - at least back then - was outstanding, transcending the genre, in the same way that the Beatles transcended rock and roll. It's one of those things that was and is just Really Very Good.

I don't think I've watched Sesame Street for about 20 years -- what's wrong with it these days?

In a word: Elmo.

While I was in college, I would rush back to my apartment each day for lunch, so that I could watch Sesame Street on my little television :)

That's the last time I've been able to see it other than little clips here and there. I am going to definitely put these in my Netflix cue!

ARRRRGH!!! I hit stop just after I hit post and missed. Queue. Queue. Not cue. I meant to type queue.

Off to drink more coffee,

Sil.

Box nailed it. Elmo - and then the visible Snuffalupagus - and it all started to slide downhill.

And Cookie Monster having to give healthy-eating PSAs. That sucks. Part of the awesomeness of Cookie Monster is that you know he's being naughty.
