Australia - Amazing Grace - Royal Scots Dragoon Guards...?? T-rex "Metal Guru (uk) and Sammy Davis jr "Candy man" USA.
I've always thought my life theme song was Papa was a rolling stone by the temptations, as it was on the toplist all summer when I was born. :) And I LOVE it.
Baby Jane - Rod Stewart (UK), Flashdance...What A Feeling - Irene Cara (US), Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler (Australia). Must have been a bad summer.
The uniforms are because the two performers are in character from their TV Show "It Ain't Half Hot, Mum", which was a sitcom set in India in WW2 and which centred on the antics of a group of entertainers. It was horribly unfunny, homophobic and racist, which was about par for the course for British sitcoms of the 1970s.
hm, i strongly suspect chuckdarwin and i were born within a few weeks of one another. only diff between his & mine is that MacArthur Park (wtf?) was #1 in Oz on my bd.
US - Hey Jude, The Beatles
UK - Lily The Pink, Scaffold (Hu?) The month before was A Little Help From My Friends, Joe Cocker, and I was born early in the next month, so I'm claiming that.
I now feel less cool, as I followed the suggestions at the link, and the #1 on my 18th birthday was I Think We're Alone Now - Tiffany, and on my wedding day? MACARENA!!!
Let me just say I'm appalled at how many people are listing songs that I vividly remember playing on the radio when they were new. Some from my teen years. Argh.
At least I got one truly kick-ass song for my birthday:
You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ - The Righteous Brothers (US and UK)
20 Miles - Ray Brown & the Whispers (AUS- never heard of it)
I'm 37, vix. (and the USA number one on your birthday is one of my all time favorite songs and the Troggs were a great band and so were the Easybeats (they did 'Friday On My Mind,' still the bes 'weekend song ever)).
