02 January 2008

Multi-point status update.*

*Your points may vary.[More:]

1. Still experiencing weird itchy outbreaks, but only at the girlfriend's apartment. The prevailing theory changes with every new rash. Each new theory is my favorite. Right now, all signs point to a health-foody brand of conditioner that she's promised to never use again.

1a. Rash covering neck and wrist. Trying to resist scratching it with a grapefruit spoon.

2. Got back home after a 30-hour trip home involving 4 airports (because I gave up my seat for a free round-trip ticket), then spent a couple nights away. Came home again last night. Must travel for three nights for work over the next five days. Do not want to leave house.

3. Feast or famine: Currently poor. Have more work than I can handle during the next month, and the large paycheck will be very nice. Might also have a job interview. Yay. Bills due before paycheck comes, though, which presents a bit of a logistical problem and some ugly anxiety.

4. Trip to the farmers' market is imminent. GF and I will most likely jockey over who cooks dinner. (We'll be fighting for the right, not to shirk responsibility.) Compromise will be reached eventually.

5. Cooooold in here.

5a. Must buy firewood.

6. How the hell do the cats get the carpet so dirty when I'm gone? All they do is sleep. And where did they find mud and leaves to track through the living room?

7. Happy new year.
* I should go to the gym.
* I don't want to go to the gym.
* I promised MetaChat I would go to the gym.
* I really don't want to go the gym.
* I know that if I go to the gym, I'll feel better, but... man. Really don't want to go to the gym.

Occhi - GO TO THE GYM!

1 Although I didn't work out at all last week due to houseguests...
2 And I didn't work out this morning due to ...
3 Having to drive MuddDude to the airport at the ungodly hour of 6am...
4 But I WILL work out tonight, after I go to Best Buy, and eat...

1) I am very tired, because we had sirens in our road going on all night and flashing lights which penetrated our crappy bedroom curtains with ease.
2) I am also a bit weirded out because the sirens and lights were there for the deaths of three of my neighbours in a housefire.
3) I would love to go home and sleep, but it would be too hot anyway, so I may as well stay at work with the big aircon.

1// Was bragging about the few number of days I've wore socks this winter because it's been exceptionally warm.

2// Went for a walk with the camera at lunch and nearly froze my toes off.

3// Frozen foot tastes just as bad as warm foot, maybe a bit crunchier.

* The only time I went to
* the gym, I
* did twenty minutes on
* the rowing machine (since that's
* the one I knew how to use), and
* then tried out the treadmill, which was sort of okay, except that I got
* quite disoriented when I stepped off
* of
* it, and then I left all my new gym kit in the locker, which you're
* not supposed to do,
* and then when I came back a year later, they'd
* given it all to
* the
* Sally Army.

~ Ate and made delicious soup tonight (not in that order, see my post above)

~ Had work today despite only having arrived home yesterday. Not too much of a bummer as no one was there.

~ Yesterday rode on bus 8+ hours for what was supposed to be 6.5 hour bus ride. Thank god for sleep and the fact that my friends were with me to keep me amused.

~ The bus ride yesterday was from Montreal, where I spent three days with my two best friends, who are both leaving in the next two weeks (one is going far far away, one is only going a couple of hours away. Still sad)

~ Montreal was the bomb and we were in our friends' kickass apartment and we roamed around and talked in bad French (or outrageous French accents) most of the time. We also drank and ate cheeses and chocolate and fries and other tasty things. I heart Montreal.

~ Christmas with the fam in Ottawa was a powerhouse tour, saw basically all of my peeps there were to see. Good times.

~ Now broke for a spell (see soup posting, above), but am getting my formal job offer w/actual salary amount sometime soon. *fingers crossed*

* Fry the cat has now learned how to leap from the back of my office chair up to the very top of that infamous bookcase. A colossal mess is inevitable.
* My dad forgot within two hours that he had driven my mother home from work because she felt ill.
* We are having such a cold/warm yo-yo in Wisconsin that there are ice dams everywhere and all the gutters have icicles hanging from the back. We have two soffits (including rental property) that have developed water damage so far, meaning much work in spring (hopefully no major leaks until then).
* My mom has about had it with my nieces. There comes a point when developmental disability crosses over into laziness. With my dad's condition worsening she doesn't need them hanging on her apron strings.
* At least my nephew is getting out, assuming his girlfriend keeps him.

1. Really happy about Science Girl's new job. It's like it was designed spcifically for her.

2. Less happy about mine. If I could do everything my clients expect of me, I'd be somewhere between Superman, Jesus and the Amazing Kreskin. It's nice that they have such faith in me, but I'm still bound by the same laws of time and space as you mortals.

* Random cabbie returned my wallet. It had been ganked from my purse on New Year's eve. I nearly cried when the BF told me he was there to return it.
* Contemplating going alcohol free for a undetermined amount of time. I liked myself a lot more before I started drinking for fun.
* I found out that you can go through the 55 levels in Call of Duty 4 a total of 11 times. Each time, you get a new icon by your name. That makes 605 total levels. The BF has been playing for two months and is on round three, level 32 (or level 142). At 71 levels a month, that makes for another six months of Call of Duty 4. I cannot take six more moths of this game!!@!1

* I have a ham bone and ham scraps in the fridge. I am inventing soup tomorrow for dinner.

Unlike SassHat, I have not spent any time in Montreal in the last week or two. That's notably odd.

Like SassHat, also paving the way for youngergirl55, I recently made an excellent soup.

My parents will soon be arriving for half a year out here. This should prove very interesting; we haven't been within a day's drive of each other for over a decade.

Results of year-end introspection have not been fully tabulated but early signs suggest that I have a pretty nice life, and I think more good things are right around the corner.

44! Not 55! Sorry, youngergirl.

* Home from the three-week vacation to the Bay Area, Chico, and Grass Valley.

* Bay Area was fun but stressful since a bunch of work crap landed on me at the same time.

* Chico was lovely, as usual. I really like spending time with my boyfriend's parents. I made a vegan pumpkin pie that didn't *quite* turn out right but was still pretty tasty.

* Grass Valley was a Quaker retreat thing over New Year's. I semi-volunteered to take over the cooking (on my first visit to this gathering) and all the food went over really well. I had my first puppy-pile and my first girl-kiss (A girl has a (shared) crush on me! This is so many kinds of cool!)

* I really like puppy piles.

* I volunteered to do food next year too. But I need to spend less time cooking and more time sleeping next year because...

* I have a cold. And I'm trying desperately to keep it out of my ears because I don't want to need antibiotics. I bought sudafed (the real stuff) for the first time since it became criminal.

Flu related sinus infection is still lingering.

Business class on Virgin America sucks...same postage stamp pillow and acrylic blanket that's been handed out in coach on other airlines for years. Small child shrieking directly behind me for most of the flight.

Rented a Prius. Do not like that A/C is computerized, but happy with everything else.

Am sad to see Brentwood Dutton's isn't doing well.

Did go to New Years party. Aunt asked if I was mad at them...gee, my last email saying the issue isn't resolved wasn't answered! Grandmother replied to my hello, but don't think she recognized me. Chupahija behaved like a fake. New neighbor across the street is building a McMansion on a block which is mostly bungalows.

Had been told that Grampa wrote columns for the Valley Daily News which is archived at CSUN. Went to their library, but their archives only go back to the 90's. Will have to call newspaper morgue.

Went to Juno, but fell asleep.

Need to do laundry.

Meetup tomorrow and am somewhat anxious.
