Quick! what can I do with a 15 year old in San Francisco? That doesn't include the Exploratoreum or China Town? [More:]she'll be here at 11.
She seems to be into theater and wearing cute outfits. She's vegetarian. She's from Colorado, near Boulder. That's all I know.

I'm thinking of trying to get us into Greens, which will take up a couple hours, but then we still have until 5.

She likes cute outfits, and she's from Colorado? Take her to a bunch of boutiques.

Crunchy vegetarian fifteen-year-olds from Boulder (who like to shop) seem predisposed to like Haight Street. Unless she's a chi-chi vegetarian fifteen-year-old from Boulder, in which case she'd probably like Union Square.

Neither of these things seems like your cup of tea, though. (And if the weather is as crappy down there as it is up here, strolling outside seems out.) What about going to the DeYoung or the SFMoma? City Lights, plus a quick tour of North Beach? (Too near Chinatown?)

If you can't get in to Greens (which has a beautiful view but, IMO, but an uninspiring menu), you could try Cafe Gratitude. It's SF weird, but it's supposed to be good.

You should also check to see if she likes (or has ever had) Ethiopian food. It's great for vegetarians and really exotic if you've never been exposed to it. Lots of good restaurants in SF, too.

Have you checked to see if there are any matinee shows, since she likes theatre? Beach Blanket Babylon is probably IMPOSSIBLE to get into, but that'd be fun.

And on preview, per box's suggestion, Union Street is very boutique-y. *shivers*

If you go down there, you could eat at Betelnut. Small plate asian stuff, with plenty of veg options.

How about the
Cartoon Art museum?

(This was actually a date that ikkyu and I had:)

The Asian Art Museum is very cool -- neat building, lots of neat art that seems even neater because it's "exotic," plus I think they're having a special exhibit on Japanese fashion, which from the posters looks very cool. It's a small enough museum that you'll feel like you've accomplished something, without feeling overwhelmed.

Then wander back past City Hall (pretty!) and through Hayes Valley (shopping!), and go to one of the cafes in that area for a while. (Momi Toby's, on Laguna at Hayes, is my recommendation. Funky place, usually good music, good coffee/tea (and cookies), fun and interesting clientele.)

That area leaves you pretty well connected to public transportation to get to Greens.

Eek, I lied. Momi Toby's is on Laguna at Fell.

Ack. Sudden change of plans- she's going ice skating at the Snoopy rink in Santa Rosa so I'm off the hook for today. But I am saving this thread for tomorrow or whenever else I'll need it.

Thank you so much!

Wow. I must be going down the tubes. I immediately thought, "Drink it! It's obviously better quality than the 12 year old version."

Wow, SF has a cartoon museum? How cool. Drink it then go there. Or do both at once.
