I'm pretty sure this viral video for Walk Hard is funnier than the movie's gonna be (NSFW).[More:]And that Paul Rudd is soooo cute.
Well that wasn't funny at all.

Having watched both Knocked Up and Superbad this weekend, I must confess I just don't get the attraction that many people seem to have to Apatow's work. I adore most of the actors in his films, but under his guidance I just don't think they bring the funny to me. Oh well, I'll always have Arrested Development, Galaxy Quest, and How I Met Your Mother.

You can't compare it to Arrested Development. That's not fair. The only thing Apatow has done that comes close is the Larry Sanders Show, and I'm not sure how much he had to do with that show's brilliance.

Anyway, this video made me laugh, but mostly I posted it because I think it's interesting that the funniest scenes from the last few Apatow movies have been from the pre-release viral videos that didn't even make the movie (or were never even intended for the movie?).

You've put the point on it, mullacc. I thought both the "deleted" Brokeback Mountain scene and the scene where Michael Cera "melts down" which is itself a mockery of another behind the scenes meltdown for the production of Knocked Up were both funnier than anything I saw in the movie itself; I was actually hoping that the Brokeback scene would make it into the "unrated" DVD cut. And in the "unrated" Superbad you can quite clearly tell the dialog that's been ad-libbed from the stuff that's not and, usually, the ad-libbed stuff that was cut from the theatrical version is funnier to me.

I want to like these movies, I really do. Apatow's assembled some really funny people and then doesn't seem to want or let them be as funny as I know they can be. Which is why I do, for example, compare Arrested Development to Apatow's work. Maybe AD spoiled me for just how funny Cera can be, and illustrates how funny I wanted him to be in Superbad.

i'd totally see Walk Hard if the opportunity arose. i haven't seen any of the others yet but i don't feel the need to pay for them.
And i think i'd like to be somewhat chemically affected upon viewing but it's not absolutely necessary.
i trust that John C. reilly to give it all he's got. He's one of those.
You know, actory actively acting actors.
