Too Good To Be True webhostings? (askmecha inside) Right, so once again I'm growing too big for my server (600 GB raid) and bandwidth a month (400 GB), apart from that my full server Dell SC1435 twin Dual AMD Opteron and hosting company are peachy - it's just that their next step up is waaaaaaaaay out of my pricerange. [More:]

So, seeing as I need a static IP (I need SSL), and I like to run stuff myself (fedora, mysql, bind, sendmail, php my faves) are these places totally for real? What's the catch here? seriously? What they offer is dirt cheap and they list so many irrelevant things I don't know what to think. unlimited pro 4,000 GB Data Transfer unlimited space for 12.95? Get out! Or 4.44 for 1000 GB space and 1000 GB bandwidth... hang on that one says I can only have 3 mysql database I must be sharing that server, right?

Anyone know affordable hosting that's actually for real?
ohmyI'madork I forgot the MI-tag. admins, hope!

Don't believe anything that says unlimited (or really big) bandwidth.

Also, search for 'hosting-name sucks' in google.

ouch, a very effective way in finding lots of whining that was... Still some people seem to have done stupid things and caused their own troubles...

hahaha, no - on my first server I shared it with a pr0n-guys cause he was the only other person I knew who had similar bandwidth and space needs. Still, I ate most of the space while he stood for the huge spikes of traffic. Pr0n is all about traffic.

I have over 40,000 quicktime commercials in my archive now, and I'm trying to keep the site fast and such while still being affordable and found that when I get traffic spikes now, my unmetered solution may insure that I have a regular price-tag each month but it doesn't do well with sudden popularity and it kinda chokes the incoming traffic. This sucks.

I could have made do with the 600 gig for a little while longer, sadly I didn't partition it, memset did and Ikeep slamming my head into the edges of my web partitions and getting sick of symlinks now.
