I take a lot of pride in who I am, Metachat.

Mama tried to raise me right, and now I'm bringing home the good news on silver wings. The fightin' side of me thinks things aren't funny anymore, and this okie from muskogee is just going to stay here and drink until we can all make it through December.

It is strange that Merle Haggard, although born in Bakersfield, now lives just outside of Redding. While Buck Owens stayed in Bakersfield.

Redding and Bakersfield are on opposite ends of the Great Central Valley in California. And in a way, Owens and Haggard are opposite poles in some kind of continuum.

These factoids have always fascinated me.
