Man Cold It's funny because it's TRUE.[More:]

My husband asked me to tell you HE wasn't amused. But then-HE'S a man.
This is sometimes true for me. I've inherited my dad's trait of never taking anything for colds, and if I do get a truly TRULY bad cold, I admit that I'll sometimes run with it.

I get headaches and migraines quite a bit, and more often than not I'd rather suffer through those silently and pretend nothing is wrong with me than call attention to them, but with colds it's different. Sometimes you just need some sympathy.

Hahaha. This was a re-enactment of the other week at my house. He insisted on being taken to the urgent care clinic.

Really.

Omigosh. Did you take him, desjardins?

I like nurturing and heating tea and making nice nice and tucking blankies around people as much as the next person, but it was never reciprocated - whenever I had the cold, I was naturally just expected to tough it out (which I did, of course, since a cold ain't no big thang), but whenever my husband gets one, you would think the world was about to end.

I never take anything for colds either. I wouldn't think someone with the username CitrusFreak would have to though.

There's a saying I've heard, as follows:

Modern medicine is wonderful - it allows a woman with pneumonia to nurse her husband through a cold.

There's some truth to this, yeah.

I don't do much for colds either - my own, that is. Diet Coke, water, and rest is pretty much the cure I prescribe myself. If it is really persistent, I make curried chicken soup.

Everyone knows that the male physiology is much less capable of coping with The Cold. That this so called "comedy program" would trivialise such a debilitating time for many men is deeply upsetting.

But, Man Stroke Woman is frequently hilarious.

Miko, do you have a recipe for that? Sounds good.

Essexjan, can you tell me what it was the "paramedic" said to the woman as he's scooting out the door? Some of it was just mocking her but the last bit sounded like he was actually saying something-the accent was so thick I totally couldn't get it. (Per my American southern ears.)

It sounds like he says "Me me me, have you heard of lemsip?" but I might be mishearing too.

It was ...
"I've got a cold too..." (copying the woman)
Have you not heard of Lemsip.

Lemsip is a paracetamol containing lemony hot drink.

*looks for the hidden camera*

That is the mister when he has a cold. I'll say something about the whining and he'll say, "But I'm a man, I'm supposed to whine." He usually takes DayQuil and NyQuil for his colds.

Being diabetic I can't take anything for a cold/flu and have to suffer through it. /whine

do you have a recipe for that

Not so much a recipe as a method. Usually I just start with one half a split chicken breast, with bones (to me, the bones are an essential component of the soup's palliative powers). I poach the breast in clear water until it's cooked through - then I run cold water over the breast, and set the cooking water (now brothlike)aside to cool. Once the breast is cool enough I pull off all the good bits of meat, dicing any big parts up and shredding the rest, and set that aside for the soup. When the fat collects at the top of the water/broth, I skim the fat off and save the rest of the broth for the soup. That is key because there is a lot of rich marrowlike goodness in that broth.

Then, I mince some garlic and chop some white onion and saute it in a deep skillet in olive oil until translucent and fragrant. Then add some curry powder and toast it in the oil briefly. At that point, you add the cooked chicken and water and any veggies you have around - diced carrots, more onion, celery, and even things like sweet potato (diced) potato, butternut squash, etc. Taste, adjust the curry powder, adjust the salt. Simmer until the veggies are tender.

With a proper amount of curry, this soup is almost resurrective. If nothing else, it gets the sinuses clearing.

Hysterical.

Very funny. Mr. taz skews the man cold data a bit, though. While at no time, well or ill, does he ever disdain the notion of lying on the couch and allowing me to bring him soups, snacks, or delicious beverages, he's nevertheless all kinds of stoic when he has a cold. If I tell him maybe he shouldn't do X, because he has a cold, he trumpets, "I AM A BULL, A BULL, I TELL YOU... cough, cough, sputter, sputter, sneeze".
