Help me find the names and artists of classic old holiday songs like the ones playing on about a dozen radio stations all season when I was a kid? Or recommendations of your own classics and faves?[More:]

Like, Bing Crosby was about THE classic White Christmas back then, but I know there were many others about as good. And Sinatra's Big Band-ish Let It Snow is great, but there're others too.

And I can't think who did good versions of O Tannenbaum or Jingle Bells.

And Silent Night!

Much less others whose titles have even escaped me.

And I recall some songs sung by actual choirs.

It's all fuzzy. I just remember it was all good.
:-)

Help?
The Ray Conniff singers did half the songs you remember, I guarantee!

Nat King Cole does the quintessential The Christmas Song (chestnuts roasting etc)
Gene Autry - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Burl Ives - Have a Holly Jolly Christmas
Johnny Mathis - I'll Be Home For Christmas

Ya see, there are some serious playlists in the making here, and some CDs.

Also, the relatives WILL listen to the music and shut up, quit arguing, fill their pie-holes with pie, and glow with the spirit of Love, Peace on Earth, the jolly fat man, and Joy to the World (because It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.)

There will be Peace.

Or I'll shoot them.

My favorites:

"It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" by, Johnny Mathis

"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Amy Grant. Brenda Lee is a classic, but I love the Amy Grant version.

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is my favorite Christmas song.

"Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms

I also love The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole as mentioned by iconomy.

Thanks!

OOOH, I FORGOT: MY OWN RECOOMENDATION IS THAT ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF RELIGION OR LACK THEREOF, MUST HAVE A COPY OF VINCE GUARALDI'S A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS.

Not really the genre I was thinking of at all, but Da Best. *Ahhhh*

I always get the first line of "The Christmas Song" wrong.

"Chipmunks roasting on an open fire ..."

The Pretenders' "2000 Miles."

See also my MetaFilter post from last year on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
