Mutts : I read a lot of comics and lately I've been really digging Patrick McDonnell's Mutts[More:]
It might be because I'm sappy, but it's nice to have a comic that's consistently warm hearted and loving, plus I like the characters.

Patrick McDonnell also earned bonus points with me when he canceled part of his book tour when his dog Earl died (age 19)).

This weekend I picked up Hug Time and look forward to reading it to Little drezdn someday. I'm probably going to pick up The Gift of Nothing soon too.

I also like McDonnell's tireless championing of adopting shelter animals. All of my kitties have been adopted from shelters and have brought much happiness into my life.
Does mutts have an RSS feed yet? I miss that comic.

Not that I know of. I have it in my daily comics bookmarks (using the Seattle P.I. site, as they have the latest comic while the syndicate doesn't).

I like Mutts, but it is occasionally a little too saccharine for my tastes - and I'm a huge animal (esp. rescue) lover. The local paper only runs the Sunday version, though, so I probably miss quite a few of the better ones. I think I may like the fact that it's there more than I like reading it.

terrapin and drzdn: I use the Darkgate Comic Slurper for my funny pages .rss needs. You can customize a unique feed to get all the comics you want with one subscription. Works like a charm, and yes, Mutts is one of the strips they offer.

McDonnell is actually on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of U.S., probably by invitation.

I like his style, too. Evidently he does things the old-fashioned way with "India ink," quills and brushes. I saw him speak at an conference and he told a fun anecdote about completing a strip only to have one of his cats jump on it and completely smear the ink. That's refreshing in the digital age, too. Almost no one does anything without Photoshop anymore.
