Today I got the bargain to end all bargains. [More:]
A beautiful buttery-soft deep blue suede jean jacket. It was in a thrift store and it was just $15. Yes, fifteen dollars! And it's brand new, never worn. Gorgeous. Just gorgeous.

Woo woo! I love thrift store shopping, it's the greatest.

Well, keep it away from TPS's bloody axe, then.

I have a beautiful, lined, jet black fringed suede jacket that I got for some ridiculously low price. It is the awesome.

How can something be both suede and denim? I'm confused.

It's suede, but in the style and cut of a jean jacket.

Not denim, 'jean.' And 'jean' isn't a fabric, but rather a style. Jeans can be suede, velvet, vinyl or... well, that's already bad enough, I think.

Ah. Thanks. I guess I'm denim-centric.

One of the fringe benefits of having parents that live in Dutch country (West Michigan lakeshore) is that when I visit them I can tag along with them when they go garage sailing. Half the time I don't find much, but when I do, the prices are unbeatable. My best find was a woman who was selling off her late husband's clothes (she was moving and could no longer store them). I got a brand-new sweatshirt, jacket, and winter coat for something like $9. I could have had a beautiful black overcoat for another $10 or so, but it didn't fit well, so I left it for someone else who might get more use out of it.

I miss yard sales. They're so fun.

My best bargain ever was a new full length camel hair overcoat from a Salvation Army store.

arse_hat, I bought my ex-husband an Aquascutum camel coat at a jumble sale for a pound. He was small and slight and I could see that the coat wouldn't fit any of the men trying it on, so I bought it. It fit him like it was bespoke.

Mine was a Perry Ellis jan. Fit me so well. I miss it. Really well made clothing can make you feel great.

How exciting!

My favorite thrift store find was a pair of two-season-old white Manolo Blahnik pumps for $9. Nine! Dollars! And right next to them? White Blahnik slingbacks! Seven! Dollars! (They had one black scuff on the side, after all.)

I squealed right there in the aisle. OH! MY! GOD! They totally don't fit, but that doesn't keep me from caressing them.

That is insane.
That is ebay material.
i had a pair of Balenciaga boots i coveted for ages, still a high three figures at a basement sale price.

i love the thrift store resale. i think i got the most mileage out of a tail coat or a couple early sixties tailored dresses but a few ball gowns i never got to wear out still bring a tear to my eye.

I was the 2nd caller on a fabulous rug on craigslist. With any luck, caller #1 won't show up. My living room would look so much nicer, and it would keep my toes warm. I am envious of each of your bargains, even though I am wearing a great Goodwill sweater right this minute, and Goodwill jeans. Beige, but denim.

Brown leather Dingo motorcycle boots, circa 1978, my size, fit like a dream, beautifully worn in, shit-kickin' heel....$5 at an Auburn, MA, tag sale.

Pink silk 1930s bed jacket, thick, soft, and romantic...$15.

Five dollars for a great mens' overcoat, made in a soft material with a subtle houndstooth pattern. I wore that coat out. I got it in a terrific three story thrift store that I hardly get the chance to visit anymore.
