19 October 2007

I'm listening to Lindsey Buckingham's Under the Skin (2006), which I just picked up after listening to it with my brother last month, and I love it![More:]
It's incredible! It makes me happy to listen to. I mean, it's actually put me in a goofy, good mood.

If you'd asked me two months ago whether I dug LB, I'd a said, "sure, he's freakishly talented, but, like David Byrne, he does little for me."

But right now I feel like all the good nerves on my spine are being plucked and tickled at once.
It's an underrated masterpiece. Quirky ideas; complex guitar frippery; cool melodies.

And track 10, "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind," is the first time I've heard Big Music since the final track on The Waterboys' This is the Sea.

Time to go home and listen to "The Pan Within."

Lindsay Buckingham spent the late 90s putting together a solo album, The Gift of Screws. When he turned in a CDR to Warner Brothers in 2001, the suits somehow convinced him to shelve the project and pull seven of the best songs for yet another cash cow Fleetwood Mac album, Say You Will. Come 2006, Buckingham went back and raided TGoS for another couple of songs for Under the Skin.

Submitted for your approval: The Gift of Screws (plus a couple of live tracks for good measure), neatly zipped up and ready to go.

Lindsey came and played here locally a few months back and I couldn't make the show.

I have always been a fan of his, and can waste precious daydream minutes fantasizing about him sitting in on my yet-to-be-released solo album.

His new one is the shit.
