Another parting of the ways [More:] We'd been together a long time, cable television and i, but it hadn't been good for a while. i knew it wasn't going to last. We weren't spending much time together and i felt like it was costing me a lot more than i was getting out of it, but still, i'd just gotten use to having it around. We were comfortable, and probably in a rut, but still, to just disappear on me with no warning?
No, i'm sure it's all for the best, it was going to happen anyway, but sudden change is jarring, and then come all those other details you didn't even consider.

Nice cable guy made sure to call many times and to make time to come and fetch all the sundry bits that needed retrieval, tidy up the bill and make sure nothing weird got tacked on and all extra bits got left behind (cables and remotes) free of charge. Having to rearrange things to wait for nice cable guy anyway, i think i might as well do things that keep getting put off, like some odd errands, tidying, dusting and washing of blankets.
Being all economical with time and effort, things get dismantled and organized and my ins and outs are timed so i will be in when nice cable guy comes.

And here comes nice cable guy. Nice cable guy who has made sure to call several times today, to always be prompt and fix little extra things, to give me his personal number, who will never have a reason to contact me again, who i have just tidied and economized out of time for a chance to chat and-- what exactly?
All the bits are ready by the door and after a joke about how my only tv option now has traded Comedy Central for Church Channel, to which he laughs heartily, i'm accidentally brisking him on his way, leaving him only time to say "call if you ever need anything."
Hmm? Wha? Is that what i think it is?

Nice cable guy is not a creep and yet i didn't leave him any time to say anything not creep like. Still, he's got my number. So if he's single and actually interested, he'll call, right?

Still, my mind lingers on the things i'll miss, like apparently all the Viacom channels and Bravo, but now there's prominent placement of Fox News.
Oh, cable, i'll always remember the good times.
Yeah, the bedroom smells all freshly laundered, but it's just not the same without your familiar glow and the Daily Show.

*sniff*
Pffft.
Who wants lemon cake with dark chocolate bits? Because i'm having some.
Tea?

darjeeling, please! and some cake.

Buh, anything you wanna watch, you can see on dvd.

I'll have some, thanks. Sad about the cable... yet nice cable guy sounds nice.

Or torrent, yes, but this removes all the fun of chancing upon a thing or watching something at the exact same moment as someone else. And then there is the whole "useless crap you'd never go out of your way to see" category, not to mention the dead of night special.
Oh, it's not a big deal but it removes the casual viewing aspect, and the stuff you'd never think to watch part, and the having to make a special effort in every thing.
And the noise buffer, it was a quick and easy neighbor obfusticator.

Milk or honey?

i'm not sure if cable guy is single.

Honey, honey. Hm. Well, maybe he'll find a way to let you know. That would be nice of nice cable guy.

The cake, made with coconut oil btw, is both fluffy and delicious.

I think you'll be happier in the long run.

Is there any of that cake left?

Yeah, the bedroom smells all freshly laundered, but it's just not the same without your familiar glow and the Daily Show.

But it could be even better with a nice cable guy in there.

I have been thinking of getting basic cable. The reason being that I do not receive the local abc affiliate. The other stations, including PBS, fair to good, but not abc and there is stuff that I try to watch.

Other than that, it would be nice to be able to watch stewart and colbert when I want, but for now they remain a treat, when the neighbor is out of town and we get to go over and play with her satellite/plasma setup.

But for now, I think the status quo will reign.

It would be better with something better than the floaty wifi that is letting me online with you lovely peoples right now.
Back to dsl? Man...
The celly and the chance wifi is all i gots right now, besides cake, which while delicious i'd be better rid of, just like cable, except-- there just better be a torrent of Project Runway.
No more food network?!

We've made it a point to stop watching TV in the evening, and (through sky+) have completely banned commercials. We've cut it down to 30 minutes a day through doing more family activities (it's been really cool).

Project Runway episodes (and other Bravo shows)can be downloaded for 2 bucks apiece at amazon.com. Once they start the new season, I mean.

As for food network, I get my Iron Chef Japan episode fix here. (They have Iron Chef America too.)

Ooh, thanks. i hadn't looked over stage 6 before.

The first episode of Project Runway Canada is up on youtube. The second episode is available for a limited time here, but I warn you they tell you who got cut on the same page as the video, and you won't not see it.
posted by JanetLand 18 October | 09:53
i was looking at mention of that at the same time i saw this.
Have you seen it yet?
posted by ethylene 18 October | 09:57
Oh my goodness.

i meant the project runway canada.

Ah. Sorry, that page completely distracted me. Yes, I watched PR Canada -- I don't think I like it as much. Iman is very wooden as a host, and sounds ANGRY much of the time. The pacing of the scenes she's in is very slow. Perhaps she will loosen up, however, as it goes on. The guy playing the Tim Gunn role is pretty good, and the guest judges for Ep. 2 are the Heatherette guys, you can't go wrong with them. The clothes and contestants are just as usual.
