AskMecha: Web hosting and domain names →[More:] OK, I'm totally clueless. When MuddDude and I got engaged, I registered a domain name (from 1and1.com) for our future surname. Now, I'm trying to set up a web page (hosted by nearlyfreespeech.net), and I can't figure out how to get "www.MyDomainName.org" to point to the files hosted on the web server. The help documents only confuse me more, what with "cname" and "haccess" and so on.

I know that specifics would be hard, but can anyone point me to a quick outline of the steps I have to take? Like "set up forwarding at 1and1", "edit htacess file to do this", and so on.

There should be a spot where you registered the domains (1and1) that'll say NAMESERVERS. There will be a place for two or three of these. Normally nameservers are named something like:
NS1.nameofyourhost.com
NS2.nameofyourhost.com
NS56.nameofyourhost.com

nearlyfreespeech.net probably included your nameservers in a welcome email or they should be listed in your control panel somewhere.

You want to make sure 1and1 has the right nameservers.

I'm guessing you already added the domain to the site inside NFS.net.
If you did, the nameservers you have to use are under Domains > (DNS) Manage. At the top of the page there should be two adresses, these are the nameservers.
They should look like this:
ns.phx1.nearlyfreespeech.net
ns.phx2.nearlyfreespeech.net

I think there are more nameservers adresses than those ones so check first before using them.
