Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, San Francisco - Anyone going? [More:]... on Saturday or Sunday?

You've already missed the highlight of the show, IMO. Jeff Tweedy played a lovely solo acoustic set earlier this evening, which was barely mentioned in any of the event schedules. Very hush-hush. But Steve Earle is playing tomorrow, and Gillian Welch, the Knitters, John Prine, and a number of other folks worth seeing.

See ya there?
Man, I wish. Why the hell didn't they do this while I was living down there?

This is one festival I would love to go to. Each year I see the line-up and think ok, this year I might be able to afford the trip, but it's not happened so far.

That's a dang dandy line-up.

I've never seen Gillian, and it looks like it'll be grand.

Go see Doc Watson. It is the duty of every patriotic American to see Doc Watson at least once in their lives, or else the terrorists will have won.

Also, Jason Isbell fucking rocks. See him, too.

I wish I could go to this....Mekons! T-Bone Burnett! Steve Fucking Earle! Jesus Christ, CHARLIE LOUVIN is still alive! Many more bands listed, many of whom I adore, and I am consumed with envy for those in attendance and consumed with rage for those who could attend but choose not to.

Seriously, go see Jason Isbell. I know you haven't heard his stuff. Just go, trust me on this.

Show report! Did Gillian play with Dave Rawlings (it was hard to tell from the poster)?

Gillian did play with Dave Rawlings - It wasn't clear what the bill was until they took the stage. I'm convinced he's a Muppet - he moves like he's hinged funny. It was a great set, and Emmylou Harris joined in for the lullabye from the O Brother soundtrack. (So nice to hear 20,000 concert-goers actually *STFU* for 3 minutes.)

Steve Earle was good playig solo, but I fear the impact of his less rockin' songs are lost when you can't follow the narrative because of the festival atmosphere, eg. Rich Man's War, etc. with people talking all around you and the wind blowing the sound about. But still worth seeing - and I totally want to see him w/ The Dukes.

I wasn't planning on staying for Jason Isbell; during that last slot the sun goes down and it gets cold. But based on BOP's word, I'm bringin' a jacket and seeing the show.

BOP - Many thanks for the tip on Jason Isbell, I owe you a pint when you're in town for next year's fest. Jason rawked. The chill wind was cutting. But as we all know, rock beats scissors, so it all worked out in the end.

Yeah, he's completely focused on the notes that are coming out of his mouth and his fingers... he also plays into the mics (they carry dozens of sure mics with them and use different ones every show) in a very specific way and it looks funny.

That sounds incredible. Was it taped?
