The new Weakerthans album is out. Let's discuss it!

My initial reaction: So far, so good.[More:] For all the claims of this being their most experimental, I expected quite a bit of experimenting; while it definitely diverges from their sound, it do so in relatively tiny steps.

There's a song about Bigfoot being lonely. Hell yeah. There's really only one track that I don't like, and this is the spoken word "Elegy for Gump Worsley." Also, I'm just not that interested in hockey players.

They're on tour right now, so go see them if you like them.
Aw crap. I forgot to do the more inside thing. Can someone add it after the "Let's discuss it!"?

I'm loving the record too spiderskull. I am with you on the Gump Worsley track too - I don't mind the content so much as the slow, largely tuneless-ness of it.

The opening track kills, and I end up speeding every time relative surplus value comes on. And, the sadness of the follow-up to Plea From A Cat Named Virtute makes for an amazing song.

This is definitely a Weakerthans record, no doubt about it. Apart from a couple squeally loops, I don't hear much that sounds too different. And, I'm okay with that. AC/DC and ZZ Top fans are starting to make more sense to me...I finally figured out how you can like a band that "put's out the same record over and over".

I really hope, in a weird way, that they never break huge, or change. I'm such a fanboy, and man, I really don't want them to go away!

I love it, and I love that it sounds just like the Weakerthans should. I can also take or leave Gump, but I can overlook the meh-factor of that track for that brilliant reappearance of Virtue. What a song. Gets me all verklempt and makes me go snuggle with my kitties whether they want me to or not.

And I've got to agree completely with the "never break huge, or change" sentiment. They make me so happy just the way they are! Don't change, Weakerthans! No never never ever never!
