Take Tiny Masters of Today, for example. The band is comprised of Ivan (13, gtr/bass/drums/vox) and his sister Ada (11, gtr/keys/drums). They live in Brooklyn. Oh, and they rock. Check out the joyous punk/garage stomp of “Stickin’ It To The Man”.

Then there’s local indie darlings Smoosh. Aysa (15, keys/vox) and sister Chloe (13, drums/background vox) have been at it for five years now; younger sister Maia (11) had only been providing cover art for their CDs up until this summer, when she toured with them on bass. “Find A Way” is charming yet sophisticated indie pop, winsome without being twee.

Like it a little crunchier? Give a listen to “Lookout” by the exquisitely named Skullbot, the pride of Stanwood, WA. It’s primo stoner rock by Jason Palaniuk (gtr/vox), Derek Palaniuk (drums), and Garrett Zipp (bass/vox). I don’t know their ages, but I do know that they’re still attending Stanwood High.

On the one hand it’s a little odd, as a middle-aged person, to be listening to musicians too young to vote (let alone too young to drive). On the other hand, I’ll take quality tunes where I can find them. Perhaps there is hope after all.
