The Long-Winded Movie Game ... involves giving the name of an actor, the movie they were in, and another actor from the same cast. Other people chime in with links to the last actor named, eventually bringing it back to said first actor.[More:] Here's an example:

I post: Cameron Diaz was in "There's Something About Mary" with Ben Stiller...

The next person replies: Ben Stiller was in "Starsky & Hutch" with Owen Wilson

The next person says: Owen Wilson was "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou" with Bill Murray

The last person says, for the win: Bill Murray was in "Charlie's Angels" with Cameron Diaz

Got it? Ready? [Preview should rule out double answers]

John Malkovich was in "Dangerous Liasons" with Uma Thurman...
Uma Thurman was in Pulp Fiction with Bruce Willis.
posted by LunaticFringe 12 September | 06:24
Bruce Willis was in Lucky Number Slevin with Ben Kingsley.

posted by chuckdarwin 12 September | 06:52
Michelle Pfeiffer was in One Fine Day with George Clooney a bit of a stinker if you ask me, the film not the man that is /would never dare to insult GC on here

George Clooney was in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind with Drew Barrymore.

Now you can do the Kevin Bacon chain.
posted by iconomy 12 September | 07:50
I thought we were done. FBK confused me. Har har.
posted by mike9322 12 September | 08:04
I didn't confuse you nearly as badly as I confused myself.

Demi Moore was in Now and Then with Melanie Griffith.
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 08:23
Melanie Griffith was in Lolita with Jeremy Irons.
posted by altolinguistic 12 September | 08:35
(I think we can call iconomy the winner)

Would you like to start a new one, iconomy?
posted by chuckdarwin 12 September | 08:46
Sorry. I will try not to confuse the shit out of anyone this next time. Maybe.
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 09:02
Oh, are we trying to "win"? I thought it was a collaborative effort.
posted by mike9322 12 September | 09:06
Thanks but no, the Kevin Bacon one is fine.

Jeremy Irons was in Die Hard: With a Vengeance with Samuel L. Jackson.
posted by iconomy 12 September | 09:11
I don't think there's a "winner" insomuch as whomever completes the chain is supposed to start the next one, to keep it simple. I mean, I'm not getting a check in the mail, or anything. Cheapskates.
posted by iconomy 12 September | 09:25
Samuel "L.L. Cool" Jackson was in Shaft with Christian Bale.
posted by Hugh Janus 12 September | 09:30
...who was in Empire of the Sun with John Malkovitch.

Oh sorry, didn't see the Malky one was done.
posted by Hugh Janus 12 September | 09:33
I AM PICKING THIS UP from HJ's Christian Bale reference...

Christian Bale was in Swing Kids with Robert Sean Leonard. (Connect this with Kevin Bacon)

(because Jean Reno was in The Big Blue with Rosanna Arquette who was in Pulp Fiction with Ving Rhames.)

Nick Cage was in Con Air with Ving Rhames.
posted by mike9322 12 September | 10:41
Carla Gugino was in Sin City with Mickey Rourke.
posted by mike9322 12 September | 10:44

posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 10:44
Mickey Rourke was in Sin City. with Carla Gugino.
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 10:46

posted by fallenposters 12 September | 10:52
Carrie-Anne Moss was in Disturbia with Shia LaBeouf.
posted by fallenposters 12 September | 10:54
(I bolded what I *think* are the beginnings of each game to possibly make it easier - someone tell me if I'm wrong please or if it's a bad idea. And hey how come I didn't get a high five?)
posted by iconomy 12 September | 11:04
Shia LaBeouf was in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle with Demi Moore.
posted by iconomy 12 September | 11:07
ico - why would we try to make this easier? ;)
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 11:13

On preview: damn! Patrick Swayze was in Dirty Dancing with Jerry Orbach.
posted by box 12 September | 11:46
HAHAHAH. I suck at this game.
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 11:47
(I am loopy from no sleep. In all fairness, if I'd had a full night's sleep I still think it likely I would suck at this game and be confused easily by it.)
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 11:49
Yeah, I was tossing out the freebee there! Thanks box!
posted by richat 12 September | 11:49
The point is to work BACK to the bolded person,
posted by richat 12 September | 11:50
(Oh the hilarious bit is that I understand what I'm supposed to be doing. I just keep getting confused.)
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 11:51
I like this game.
posted by box 12 September | 11:53
fbk, you're totally cracking me up.

So the point is to go away from the bold name?
It's to complete a chain, starting and ending with the bolded person.

So where are we? Let's recap ;P
posted by iconomy 12 September | 11:55
FBK, I was only 'splaining for Hugh.

I'll start another:

Buster Keaton was in Beach Blanket Bingo with Frankie Avalon.
posted by richat 12 September | 11:56
Frankie Avalon was in The Alamo with John Wayne.
posted by taz 12 September | 11:58
ico - I am good value at playing these types of games. Because I turn into a complete airhead.

richat - 's okay. I was explaining why I keep confuzzling things.
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 11:59
John Wayne was in True Grit with Glen Campbell.
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 12:00
Does anyone else find it really funny that we couldn't complete the Kevin Bacon chain in six moves or less?

Glen Campbell was in The Cool Ones with Roddy McDowall.
posted by iconomy 12 September | 12:03
Roddy McDowall was in The Cat from Outer Space with Ken Berry.
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 12:09
I had the same thought, iconomy, but then realized that the six degrees thing is from Kevin Bacon to someone else, not back to Kevin Bacon.

As for the current game, I couldn't play it without imdb (I don't know anything about older movies), so I'll wait for the next.
posted by mike9322 12 September | 12:13
Ditto, mike. For a minute there, I was thinking Ken Berry played Rerun.
posted by box 12 September | 12:16
(sorry. I loved The Cat From Outer Space when I was a child.)
posted by fluffy battle kitten 12 September | 12:19
No, wait, Ken Berry was the crack-smoking mayor. Or was he the Motown impresario?
posted by box 12 September | 12:21

posted by richat 12 September | 13:01
Leo DiCaprio was in The Quick and the Dead with Gene Hackman.
posted by richat 12 September | 13:05
I knew we were s'posed to go toward the bolded name, I was just having a josh at fbk's obliviousness on the Matrix gimme, which was pretty funny.

Maybe if we try to pick out older actors in flicks with all these hot young stars, we'd get somewhere, Keaton-wise.

But I'm putting too much thought into it, so by the time I remembered Robert Mitchum was in Scrooged, we're onto Leo-chan.

Hackman was in Prime Cut with Lee Marvin.
posted by Hugh Janus 12 September | 13:08
Ah...I shoulda known you wouldn't miss that Hugh.

posted by box 12 September | 17:43
Oh, dear. Grace Slick is like Godwin to this game.
posted by chuckdarwin 12 September | 18:48
(I was considering listing one of Mel Gibson's Lacandon co-stars in Apocalypto, but that would have ended the game.)
posted by danf 12 September | 19:07
Tina Turner was in Tommy with Oliver Reed
posted by chuckdarwin 12 September | 19:12
Oliver Reed? You're killing me here, chuck! You were supposed to say that Grace Slick was in Monterey Pop with Pops Staples, and then danf would say that Pops Staples was in The Last Waltz with Levon Helm, hooray! Who the hell is Oliver Reed?
