I Love Scotland So, I have a new iPod nano, and a tiny velvet case that came with a makeup mirror makes a perfect case for it. My Scottish other half said he'd put the case through the wash, as it had oose on it.

That is my favourite Scottish word yet!

Oose is even better than the Yiddish word for the same substance: schmutz.

I always thought that 'schmutz' was more like dirt or grease than fluff. As in, Mrs. Invisible and I are forever wiping the schmutz off of Kid I.'s face. (Give him a break, he's three).

I love the place but I wouldn't want to spend my winters there (or anywhere that gets full-on dark by 1500).

Is your mom Jewish, Specklet? I've seen matzah crumbs called that.
