Yay for my ISP! →[More:]Since Saturday night I've had over 11,000 spam emails, mostly bounce-backs where spam has been rejected and sent back to me, as if I'd sent it. I knew it wasn't me who had the worm, but someone with my email address on their hard drive. Damn you, stupid internet users, who think that if something says 'click here' you have to fucking well click it!
I emailed my ISP and they got right back to me with a solution, which was a bit beyond me, so I phoned them when I got in from work and they walked me through deleting the 'catch-all' function on my settings. So now only mail addressed to me personally and not some madeupspamname@mydomain will get through to me.
There's a lot of competition and advertising in the UK from ISPs, anxious to lure people to them with promises of low prices and high speeds which, more often than not, are never fulfilled. Friends I know who've changed providers to get a cheaper deal have usually regretted it.
My ISP doesn't do phones, doesn't do TV, doesn't do anything other than provide a good, reliable service. It's not the cheapest ISP I could get, but today I was able to call a UK call centre, speak to someone immediately and get the problem sorted. And that's priceless.
