Is anyone playing Bioshock yet? [More:]

We were talking about it last night, and I'm wondering who's playing. Are the graphics not totally unbelievable?

The landscape is an underwater city and the style is steampunk meets art deco. The attention to detail is fantastic. The vending machines that disperse things and the bots and the weaponry and the art/posters on the walls - so far everything is surreal and luminous and intriguing. Lots of neon and metallic surfaces and dark corners. And aqua. I'm motivated to redo my bedroom in silvers and aquas with lots of shimmery soft things.
How do people find the time? I mean, I know how single people with no kids find the time, but how do other people? I can barely get through the things I have to do every day, never mind spending hours on games. Because, of course, I could never do something like that for just a short time - I would be there for hours and hours.

I doubt that my current desktop could run it and I don't have time or spare money right now to get a new one. Looks cool though.

I'm playing it on the 360, and it is amazing. I've just reached the Medical Pavilion and I had to stop because it was creeping me out on the bigscreen in the dark.

The water is what gets me. Amazing that it looks so good. I too also love the art deco look in an underwater city where something has gone horribly wrong!

dg, I know...I guess I just put other things on hold while I indulge my obsession. It's the knowing what to put on hold - it's an art in itself.

octothorpe, it's worth the wait!

WD, I'm playing it on a 360 too. The water is unbelievable. I want to dive into it. My son and I have been playing it for hours. I can't get over the great big band music playing in the background, and the terrorizing sound effects. Have you noticed how geeky and cool the weapons become when you upgrade them? They look like they're made of rubber bands and coffee cans and egg beaters. I love the attention to detail!

That sounds like a philosophy I could live by Mitheral - if I was still 20-something. At 40-something, I think I woul die after the first week. Still, I can dream.

The MeFi thread got me excited to check it out- and I buy a game every three or four years, usually with the name "Civilization" in there somewhere, but this one sounded cool enough to widen my horizons. But now I'm getting the sinking feeling that my ancient old laptop would just curl up and whimper if I tried to run it. Sigh.

I haven't had the chance to play it, but I have seen footage from it, and the diving suit monster guys look really cool.
