Old-fashioned video cameras and runaway trains. →[More:]
My nephew started school last week; that is, he started kindergarten-prep, so I gave him a call over the weekend to see how he liked it.
"I have bananas and grapes before I go to school, because they serve two meals there, breakfast and lunch."
That's great. How do you like your class?
"Fine. Do you know what an old-fashioned video camera looks like?"
As a matter of fact, I do.
"Well, let me tell you about it. It has a circle part, and a box, and three legs..."
That's a tripod.
"Yes. You should be expecting a package. The delivery man is picking it up now. Do you want a Lego package, or a paper box?"
Lego.
"You'll have to send the Lego back after you receive it. Let me tell you what happened. The delivery train left but got stuck on the track, and they sent a maintenance crew but the wheel would only spin, so the deliveries were all stuck. But then there was an earthquake that flipped the train up (all the grass jumped into the trees and started throwing dirt into the air) and the train landed back on the tracks and started rolling again. Then the train flew off the tracks and into a house, where it slid down the banisters, busted out the floor, replaced it with poured concrete that he then painted; then he broke out all the windows and fed the glass, along with pollen, to the people, who ate from the freshly painted floor. Then the train stole the smokestack from the building, which caused the house to fill with smoke and the people to fly out through the hole made when he pulled the smokestack out. Then he went on the roof and danced awhile before jumping to another house and doing exactly the same thing, only this time, he found a shredder in the house and fed the paper into the shredder, then fed the dishes into the shredder, and then everything else until there was nothing left."
I could see him in my mind's eye playing with his train while he told me this shaggy-dog story, figuring out reasons for the toy to fly around from couch-arm to floor to table. Funny stuff.
